Whimpering at night

I need help, and yes, I am planning on taking his to the vet this week. I have a 10 year old chow named Archie who has recently (last 1-2 months) started uncontrollably whimpering at night, and only at night. I don't think he even realizes he's doing it sometimes. At first we thought it was just asking for a walk, but he comes home and it continues. He does not make a peep during the day. He is usually a pretty quiet chow, rarely barks or whimpers. We cannot figure out what is going on. I know he is senior but he is in good health physically, so I am beginning to think it's something going on mentally. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice or thoughts are greatly appreciated!

There must be something wrong going with your Chow. Otherwise, he wouldn't whimper at night. Check out with your vet first. Lets hear him and then make sure your dog gets all the nutrients in his food. I think adult dog needs different kind/amount of food.
