Hi There,

We just took our lovely puppy Tito (11 months old) to the Vet today because he over the past 1.5 weeks he has reduced his food intake and over the past 2 days he has almost stopped eating completely, apart from the odd treat and some cheese. We were unsure if it was due to the common story of Chow's being picky about food or if he actually had an issue, but he vomited last night once and once this morning (no blood visible) which in addition to him almost not eating anything over the past 30 hours was our trigger to go to the vet.

The vet took some blood samples (due back tomorrow) and checked his temperature, which was 39.6 degrees celsius and mentioned he was a "little hot", then "very hot" later on in the conversation, so kind of confused us there... Tito was also stressed going to the vet and with their heavy coat, got us wondering well what is the average temperature for a dog and is that any different for a chow?

Any tips on trying to get him to eat something would be well received, were not having much luck, even with cheese which he has always been so fond of.

The average temperature range for most dogs is from 100 to 102.5 degree Foreign Height or (38 to 39 degree Celsius). I just don't know how exactly a chow chow's Average Temperature would be..

Thank you, much appreciate the reply, we were a bit confused about what this vet was telling us, but if 39 degrees celsius is still "average", then 39.6 doesn't sound as bad as what this vet was saying... Tito is now doing well now and eating his food again which is great.

Kind Regards,

Cyber

The rectal temperature should never go over 40.
My chows temp reached 40.9.
This was serious and lead to her death.
