How to get fur to grow back on mane??

Post by busycitystreets »

Hi there,

We made the mistake of using a prong collar on our 6month old puppy to help with correcting him on walks. We've been using it since he's been about 4months. Well, his fur around where the collar sits has broken off and I'm just wondering how to get it to grow back or if it will just grow back eventually on it's own? We've since stopped using the prong collar.

Thanks!

Welcome! Good job on recognizing your mistake. Time will take care of the fur. Spend some time each day grooming. Wait until he's tired out and be gentle. Puppy fur is sooo soft! Enjoy it while you can. If your pup has a rough coat, his mane will need more attention.

It will grow back if the skin isn't scarred too much. If it developed thick skin and the follicles damaged, then fur will not grow back in those areas.
Why would you use a prong collar? dont you know that a chow's fur is one of its most prized possession and a fail-safe strategy to attract attention? ^ months is too young. Chows are hard headed
I hope yours doesn't cringe at the sight of a collar because of the bad experience he or she had with it.

It will surely goes back in no time. On the other hand, we are still dealing with Doppler's coat which seemed blowing again which we thought stopped already last month.
