Please help me! :(

Post by Mademoiselle »

Hello,

I hope you guys can help me. I have a beautiful chow chow of almost 1 year. Yesterday while I was petting him, I felt a bump above his paw. So I checked what it was and I found red/brownish pimples. It's not really a pimple actually, it looks more like crusts. I touched it and tried to remove it, but it's attached to the skin. I couldn't remove it, because my chow was in pain everytime I put pressure on it. I have no idea what it is.. I made an appointment @ the vet, but I have to wait for 5 days. I also found the same things on his head. Can somebody please help me? I'm really worried because he is in pain :(

Could be a severe skin allergy. Here's a website, go online, check pictures to find one that may be similar to your chow's crusts. Do research before going to vet. Food, environment, chemicals used in household can all affect a chow's health condition. At the worst it could be melanoma...however, my Sheena (who is 12.5 yrs} has melanoma and there is no pain involved.

Sad to hear your chowling is in pain. I use homeopathy...Arnica Montana and for nerve pains..Hypericum (2 tabs for all pets) by Hyland's Standard Process to help my chow if she has pain. Just follow directions on bottle. Wet 2 tabs w/drop of water and scrape on roof of mouth behind front teeth. Homeopathy does not interfere with medications either.

Please keep us updated after your visit to vet.

Oh, almost forgot the most important thing...when vets don't know what the problem is and decide it is some sort of skin allergy they always decide to give a steroid shot/prednisone tablets or both because it stops the itching momentarily, or for a few weeks. I found it doesn't solve the problem, just masks it and just predisposes your chow to getting cancer at an earlier age. Look to quality of diet, get blood tests, do biopsy, if necessary, check the environment and what your chow is allergic to. My experience with Troy in the Memorial section will give an indication of what I went through trying to help him with his skin allergies for 4 years w/vets and specialists, which ended in euthanasia.

So do your own research and analyze your vet's recommendations before accepting them. Much health to your cute chowling always.
