Well, I took my 10 year old girl in for the same thing today. My vet aspirated the lymph node and it cost $95. And they also did blood work (CBC) for $80... They can't be 100% sure unless they do these things. And you can't really treat what you're not sure is there.

there's a specialist my vet works with something called creditcare for animals. so now my chow has her own credit card. my vet says go with the specialst because they are board certified and have all the fancy equipment so it can be done all at once. i figured it out and my girl is 15

As our pets are living longer overall, cancer is becoming more common. I wish you the best of luck. At 15, your Chow is at a greater risk. I will pray for a good outcome. Nobody here will think less of you if you cannot afford to run a treatment. At 15, the vets would likely advise against it as well.

Wow.

I still haven't hear anything from Tippsy's vet. :( We dropped $200 on the spot for them to run the labs and they STILL haven't let us know squat... I'm so frustrated right now. And on top of my worries with Tippsy, Jasper has an ear infection, but we're treating that and it's looking a lot better.

Our vet actually told us about something(can't remember what it's called), but it's $20 a month so that'll probably be what we go with.

if you have a st francis animal hosp check them out. i think he was the saint for animals.if you can tell me about the $ 20 a month meds. my baby doesn't have much energy and i don't know if i want to put her thru chemo. if she is going to be sick and in alot of pain thats more for me than my girl. she has given me so much love i don't think i could live without her

It's prednisone. It's like $20 a month or less. Not as affective as chemo according to the vet, but I think it's worth a shot rather than putting them through the torture that is chemo.

My vet said it CAN give them longer depending on how affective it is and how fast the cancer spreads.

Our chowmix Bear, had lymphoma. He was almost 14, so we chose to go with the Pred. Our vet said it wasn't a painful kind of cancer and the prednisone helped for awhile. He was diagnosed in Nov. and we had to put him to sleep on Dec. 15. I wish you the best...it's very hard.
