Chows love to run at full speed when they are happy. They will "zoom" around the room or the yard, therefore the name "zoomies. Hot Spots are sores that they have made from chewing and scratching excessively in one area.

I wish I didn't know what hotspots were...

And there are NO silly or dumb questions! Only the lack of knowledge, which can only be solved by asking someone who has experience with something. And you can always find someone on this board that knows the answer to a question! This forum is filled with fantastic people that do know Chows.

Wow what do they look like
Re: ZOMMIES AND HOT SPOTS??
Hot spots aren't always visible in my experience. Usually, you know they have one when they are excessively licking one area (such as one spot on the arm.) I guess we could equate it with heat rash. It's uncomfortable, but it can be controlled. My vet told us to use Head N Shoulders shampoo when bathing the dog. She hasn't had one yet (thankfully).
Zoomies, on the other hand, well, there are no words to accurately describe them! It is an event to be seen! Emma does them after a bath; she will race from the kitchen, down the hall, onto the sofa (and whomever is sitting on it), off the sofa, under the kitchen table and back down the hall. This lasts for about five minutes before a break. Then it may start again later on. She will also do them if I shoot her with the garden hose or approach her in a playfully aggressive way saying, "Gimme that bunny!!"

Re: ZOMMIES AND HOT SPOTS??
Lol I know what zoomies is now Pooh used to do it for the same reasons as well. And sometimes just on his own; I knew he had lots of energy the days he did it without a reason. I always got tired before he did. He always raise his paws then slap them in the ground in a sort of pounce. It always thought he was telling me WHAT?! WHAT?! I'll take you on - lol jk but it seemed like it.Clockman wrote:Hot spots aren't always visible in my experience.
