For all the itchy chows!
Hello all,
I don't know how many of you out there have an itchy chow that nothing seems to be helping... my poor Bella has been sooo itchy and i have spent hundreds of dollars at the vet, have tried many different (very expensive!) foods... everything, and with no luck. She scratches at her belly, arms, and chest so much that she bleeds and the hair is falling out. She scratches non stop, she has no parasites either. So I did a little research and discovered apple cidar vinegar. I bathed her last night with it, then i bathed her with baby soap (oatmeal cream, aveno) and mixed half water half vinegar in a spray bottle and sprayed her itchy areas at night and this morning. Results were almost instant! She did not scratch at all last night, she slept great. She scratched a little this morning and i spritzed her and she layed down to sleep. I'll know more when I get home tonight but it seems to be a miracle worker already. So I just wanted to pass this on to anyone who's babies are suffering. Hope it helps!

An update
hi all,
Just wanted to give an update. So it's been two weeks now and i've been using the apple cidar vinegar with Bella and there is such an improvement! She still scratches a little bit but not constantly like she was. Her 'boo boos' have all cleared up! No more bleeding, the scabs are gone as well. Her har is coming back really fast also. ( she lost all the hair on her elbows, and it was really thin on her chest and arms) She looks and I can tell she feels a thousand times better. I havent been very consistent with applying the ACV on her daily, but I have added a bit to her water which seems to be working as well.

Re: For all the itchy chows!
Hi All! Miss Mei-Mei developed the itchies this summer for the first time. I was at wits end trying to comfort her and end her anguish. She was unable to sleep because of the itch, and she became scabby from the scratching. While searching for remedies, (the vet's didn't help at all) I came across this post. THANK YOU!!!!
I bathed her and squirted her per your post, and for the first time in more than a month, Mei-Mei slept peacefully. By the second day she was back to being Mei-Mei. It has been two weeks now and you can see her beautiful fur coming back nice and thick. No more scratching, no more fretting, and no more me going nuts!!! Thank you again for such a good remedy! So simple, so inexpensive, and it really works.
Peace and Blessings

Molly gets itchy as well. This sounds like a great way to help them out! Thanks!

Plus, include salmon oil in the food to prevent more skin situations in the future..That is a great item for the over all health of your chow...We have seven and it is wonderful!

Re: For all the itchy chows!
Thanks Chowling 1964, but I already use salmon oil. Our other Chows, Max-A-Million and Mikko have no problem with salmon or cod oil, but little Miss No I'm Not Eating That, And Don't Even Think About Hiding it in Something, will not not take either. She is eight years old, five years living with us, and we've never had this itchy problem before. Can someone help with an alternative for the finicky of the finickiest? Thanks in advance.
Peace and Blessings

Re: For all the itchy chows!
Hi friend,
Really I got a lot of useful information regarding the itchy problem of animals and their remedies.
Unlike human hair, dog fur is not suitable for constant bathing, and repeated washing will strip the skin of its natural, protective oils. The loss of these oils can cause your dog to scratch, irritating the skin, and, yep- making the dog stink, causing him to be bathed even more frequently. While over-bathing can be a vicious cycle, there are some things you can do to make sure that bathing doesn't create a problem for your pet.
Thanks
