Just Got A 6 Year Old, How Much Should I Feed Him?

Post by KingKong22 »

I just got a 6 year old pure bred because his last owners were treating him terribly and he needed a good home, but I'm not sure how much I should be feeding him. I bought a bag of beneful, how many scoops of food and how often should I feed him? Thanks in advance everyone (:

I can only offer a maybe logical solution, weigh the dog, that should give you a rough guide as to how much you feed, most manufacturers have a weight/food guidance chart on the food.
Example: weight of dog 18kg
guideline on food may state for dogs between 10kg and 20kg feed 200g-300g per day.
A lot does depend on apetite and activity levels too. Maybe a trip to the vets as they can usually offer good advice on where to start. Feed probably twice a day, morning and late evening. Or if he seems un-settled add a cup of cooked plain rice around lunchtime.
Good Luck.
P.S.
Had a thought after I originally posted, would suggest a course of worming treatments, again the vet can suggest the suitable type etc, and vaccinations.
