Glucosmine/Condroiton-vit C

Post by Zeus & Simba »

Hi,
I give my two kids a glucosmine/condroiton supplement and Sodium ascorbate. I have read a lot of conflicting opinions on dosage.

What actually is the correct dose for each?

Thanks!

:D

Our vet recommended the Kirkland - Costco's own brand for Henry. I just give him one tablet (I think he needs two but one seems to be working for him, he's 4yo).

500mg.

The Kirkland ones cost under $20 for 500 tablets. The vets office wanted I think $40 for 90 or something like that. Strange though, the vet actually said to go and buy the Kirkland ones, he said there had been an article in a vet paper saying they were the best ones to buy.

What does the package say?

You need to know that there are loads of different qualities and concentrations of glucosamine, and while one brand my merit 500grams another may not and glucosamine is sugar, so you can OD your dog on this product. For example a dog with unknown or known diabetes could be effected by ingesting too high a level of glucoseamin, and too much glucose actually causes sore joints.

Please read the dosage for humans and divide by 3. That should give you a "rule of thumb" dosage, and if you're not sure, ask your vet.
That is the safe way of calculating a dosage.

Code: Select all

The Kirkland ones cost under $20 for 500 tablets
Just so you know, Costco does not sell premium goods. They never have.
Right now I think the brand that offers the highest concentration is a brand called "Puritan Pride", which is available online through most sellers.

I'll go with what my VET told me to go with, he had just read VET information and passed the information onto me, he said it was the best stuff to use.

hello "Piff Poff Zeus & Simba
I also advise my vet my marks Kirkland.
It is true that the dog food at Costco is of ordinary quality. But not food for humans ...
To know the dosage has to go to your veterinarian or go to the pharmacy and request a list of drugs available for humans to dogs and cats. This list also gives the amount per pound (kg) to give the dog or cat.
a +
nb. This list of medications can be convenient ...

Hi everyone and thank you all for your replies.

The glucosmine/condroiton is pharmacy grade, and is pure. It is in powder form and rather expensive.
The vitamin C is Sodium Ascorbate and again is Pharmacy grade and is pure. This also was not cheap.

I think i have the dosage worked out on the per kg weight. It's impossible to harm the kids if the dose is slightly over.

Cheers
