Does it sound like richie?

Ok. Richie does not take treats at all as long as he goes out of the house. Recently, I found out that he take a liking to praises. Chows do enjoy it. Don't talk at all unless you are praising. It's precious. Best of all, it's FREE!!! And it doesn't make your chow look fat!

Butters had the same problem. He still is not food motivated. The trainers were at their witts end with him. But I just laughed it off. Not much ever changed. We would put food in front of him and he would move over to look at something else. So we started talking like we were really excited to get him interested in whatever we were doing. But always to busy for treats.

LOL Daryl, that's great advice! :D

Certain animals are more praise or toy motivated. You cna try offering Jack a ball or something when he does a behavior correctly. The key to treat training is finsing something they love, like a piece of cheese or teeny tiny hot dog bits. Hot dogs are like Heaven around here. But I think the others have touched on this, the key is to start without distractions, indoors. So Jack is focused on you and the treat (or toy or just you). Good luck!

*clears throat* Thanks, chowfrnd88!

Yep, distractions. Distractions would determine the value of your treats. An analogy:

If your boss offering you $100 to do a project, while another is tempting you with a $50000, of course you chosee the other company. That is what your boss have to train you, until you can withstand temptations and willingly accept $100, in the face of another gigantic paycheck. Well, of course your dog has to be trained with a $200 temptation, and slowly built up. This would ensure your bond and he won't break it so easily.
