my female chow chow is acting funny, help? advise?
Hi we have 2 chows and we had to go out of town for a family emergency. we were gone for one night but had a friend come and take out our dogs. When we came back, the female was not acting like herself. she was very quiet, sad and moved very slow. The male on the other hand was fine. Chows are known to get into fights, but we don't know what happend. Now since we got back, she has this liquid coming out of her crotch and her back legs and half of her backside is always wet and we don't know what is going on. neither of our dogs are fixed because we are trying to have puppies but her period ended about a month ago. Does anyone know what is going on here?

Take her to the vet. It could be a number of things. How old are your chows?

I agree with Tippsy's mom. Take her to your vet! If had had come home and my furry kid was in that state and no one knew what happed to her I would be on the phone with my vet. It may be nothing serious and then it might be - you don't know. It's better to have her checked out and that will give you some peace of mind.

Go to your local vet! A possible reason is that she has been impregnated without your knowledge and she now lost her puppies. Just a possibility. I got such An incident.the vet gave the dam antibiotic shot. Please update us on her status.

She could also have a pyometra which is potentially life threatening and would need to be dealt with immediately. Sorry dont mean to allarm you but your bitch needs to be seen without delay. Good luck hope all is well.

My first thought was also pyometria, a uterine infection, which is typically fatal if not addressed very quickly. Our girl, Tempest, had several transfusions and nearly died. Get her to a vet immediately, if you haven't already...

Yikes! I hope you got her to the vet just in case...I didn't know what pyometria and I just looked it up...I'll have you and your pup in my thoughts.

ilovecandy99,
Get her to the vet asap, I find interesting this happened when you were gone. Not to cast aspersions on your friend
but did you ask where he/she took your dog? Anything happen when they were out? Was the dog alone by herself
outside? If so how long. Hope she gets better.
