Nala arrived in her new home

Post by Pinoy51 »

She is so much fun, very lady like, compared to Simba, who even with 12 weeks was a handful to manage.
He likes her a lot. The first evening when I brought her home, he was all over her. Yesterday it normalized, the funny thing is, it started to get better after I gave both a bath. Maybe the smell from the litter etc. made Simba confused. Now they start playing together and she can walk without him being over her all the time.

They will get used to each other and Simba will enjoy the company - another chow to talk to. :)

Gorgeous baby and lovely pictures. They will be the best of friends. I love watching Fozz and Humph playing and running together; Fozz gets tormented by her baby brother but I am sure that she is happier with a friend.

Simba is playing with Nala most of the time careful. But here and there he is grabbing her back or hind. She is squeaking but retaliating as well. I interfere in this siutations by slowing Simba or stopping him. Telling that's wrong.
Is that okay or will I just prolongue the "get used to each other"-phase. It doesn't look aggressive just very rough.

I think Simba may be a little jealous of Nala and is securing his position, as long as it does not get out of hand.
Crating them both when the play gets too rough will give them a time out and show the two of them you are the pack leader. When you praise or greet them alternate which one you go to first as to show them they are equal.
I have not had experience myself with such variations in age but this is what I would do.
Great looking pair of Chow buddies! :) :-D

You are right to step in if the rough housing doesnt stop at Nala's yelp. That is the sign that the play time has gone a bit to far, and if Simba doesnt read that, it needs interaction. Dogs will play a bit rough and that can be unsettling for us people as observiors, but the have their own dialog, and a yelp during playtime is one of them.

Thanks Guy's actually yesterday things already settled. And Simba is starting to care for Nala. This morning when she woke up and started yelping, he walked over to her, layed down and put his big paw over hers then started licking her ear. Sooo... cute, wish I would have had a video ready. After she was calm he stood up and walked back to his sleeping place. That gave me the re-assurance we did okay over the weekend and I left for work today, knowing they will be okay.

Hi Steph,
Mine too. I never thought he would adapt that quickly to her. I will check tonight if he doesn't get too protective. I have a feeling that his being rough was actually an attempt from keeping her going around when too many people were around. It always happened with more than two people in the room or new people coming in. Will see tonight if my theory is correct.
