Koko Update
As some of you might remember I adopted Koko from someone who posted on here by the name of Kokogirl. I just thought I would give an update of her on here.
Koko was abandoned and abused by her first owners. Her wonderful neighbor fed her by flashlight each night until the ASPCA confirmed her as "abandoned." She contacted a Chow Chow rescue agency in her area and her story and picture was posted on line. My husband and I drove the 2 1/2 hours to meet her and take her home...to her "forever home." She lost most of her fur over the next few months and although she didn't like to be alone, she didn't want anyone but me to pet her. It took her almost 1 year before she would let my husband put her leash on! I have grown children who do not live with us but come home once a week to visit. She has finally let my daughter put her leash on and this after almost 2 years!! We will have her 2 years on Nov. 21.
She is such a joy to have here. She is not aggressive or vicious in any way. She loves other dogs, taking long walks, sitting on her deck to watch the world go by. While I am her clear favorite, she has grown fond of my husband as well. They sit on the couch together and usually fall asleep. She makes coming home from work each day even more special. She is not a barker nor has she ever chewed on any furniture. I'm baffled why anyone would abandon such a beauty. But, even though I am very, very sorry for what she had to go through, I am so happy I have had the privilege to take care of her. I hope to have her many more years. She is happy, healthy, and not yet 4. I've posted some pictures of her so you can see for yourself.
Thanks for letting me tell her story again. She is living proof of the saying, "One man's trash is another man's (or woman's) treasure!!" She is certainly a treasure to me!

Re: Koko Update
Thank you for the great update on Koko...(for those that would like to read about Koko - here's the original thread http://forum.chowchow.org/viewtopic.php ... 59#p145059). Koko is beautiful and it's great to hear how she now accepts your husband and other family members - good for everyone being so patient and understanding that it would just take time for Koko...a wonderful story

Re: Koko Update
I remember this story...so heart breaking, yet so triumphant in the end. Often we never hear about the final outcome, thank you so much for posting!
Re: Koko Update
Thank you for remembering. I am grateful each day that somehow, when I wasn't looking for another dog, Koko and I found each other. Not a day goes by that I don't look at her and smile and get a warm, fuzzy feeling. I'm still so grateful to Kokogirl for rescuing her and then giving her up, although I now know how very hard that was for her. We are still in contact with each other and I keep her updated on Koko's progress. She is a special lady.
I don't get on this site as often as I would like but find it to be a great place to read success stories, see great pics, and to get good advice.
Thanks for being here to share Koko's story with.

Re: Koko Update
Oh, Violet,
Thank you so much for the update on Koko. I remember her story well and was so happy for her when she got a wonderful home with you (although I remember how brokenhearted Kokogirl was to give her up.) I have often thought of Koko and you and wondered how you all were. I'm so glad it has all worked out and that Kokogirl still knows of Koko's life. Reading your post brought tears to my eyes! Koko looks beautiful, and most of all...HAPPY!

Re: Koko Update
Thanks, Cora. It is a great story and I am so happy it's mine and Koko's. I wouldn't trade her for anything and I don't know who could have just left her in her house all alone with no food or water. She has never made me even get slightly upset never mind mad enough to beat...not that I ever would no matter what she did!! I promised to make it up to her and I will for the rest of her life. She deserves nothing less than that. She is great company and a true best friend!
Thanks for the good wishes and great comments.
