New Smooth Chow Owner (Winston)

Post by Swerve »

Hi all,

We just received our new family member a smooth Chow (Winston) from Sherae Kennells in Perth Australia. He flew across to Sydney on the 30th June and met his new brother 10year old cross chow.

He's a frisky little bugger and very smart, except outside the home is very shy.

Was 7.96kg at 11weeks, Today he is 12weeks and 8.56kg

Thanks for your comments, his name is Winston. He has had a rough trot the past week.

We took him to the vet last Wednesday 1st July for his 2nd Vacination, he was 11 weeks and weighed 8kg. Anyhow he had the Websters brand vacination C5 and by the time he got home was in a bad way, threw up, eyes swollen so much he couldnt see, rushed back to the vet and he had a allergic reaction/ anaphylactic shock etc. Next step was a closed airway.

Rushed back to the vet and he got a antihistimhime (spelling) shot and a steroid shot. After 4 hours was back to normal. That night before bed he had diherrioah (heard it, didnt see it) and he went to bed.

In the morning he had bad runny poo with a small bit of blood, then a blood only poo(8am) , with some blood lumps. I waited outside and got a 2nd runny poo. Rushed back to the vet at opening.

Vet said as there has been no vommiting it is not bacterial, most likley related to the shock from the previous day. We have a course of antibotics and some other stuff to place in his water. around midday got another poo more orange in colur and still runny. About 4pm got a soft poo with not real visible blood, 2 days later we have a semi solid stool with large noticeable blood spot (have a photo) Vet said if the blood dosent go away by 4 days we have a issue.

By Sunday poo was back to normal and were all happy.

Steve

Welcome! I enjoyed the pictures and videos. Winston is adorable! You can just see the intelligence in his face. I'm so glad he is alright after the allergic reaction!! I'll bet that was awfully scary. Duff is a handsome boy also.

Welcome. What a hard start to life in his new home poor little chap. Winston's face looks like he has a very strong character and obviously he has plenty fighting spirit. He is adorable - sooo cute. Lets hope life is bit easier for him now. A few more pix please.

We had a shar pei puppy that had a reaction from first shots, he wasn't as bad as your pup .. Just as soon as we left half way home he started vomiting. So right back we went and they gave him something and it seemed to work.. (I forget what it was prednisone or benydryl something like that). Anyway each time he got shots we had to pre medicate him ..and even then he would sometimes vomit once or twice.
Well Winston looks like a real cutie hope he does better in the next round of vaccines. Hopefully your older chow thinks hes a cutie too.. Looks like the fun has just begun..

Not Romulus, then? Winston is a fine name. What a scare , I would have freaked out. Both your boys are handsome, so cute to watch them play.

Thanks All,

Pleased to say Winston's health is all back to normal and he is doing well.

He went to puppy school this week and he got on well with all the other 10 or so puppies. Everyone loved his coat and he was a crowd favorite.

My biggest issue has been the leash. As soon as it goes on he freeze's. I read somewhere on here it is a method to become invisable etc. I left the leash on him today for one hour os so. Then finially got him to walk (slowly) 100m or so. I was quite happy. You can tell he is scared and very tender footed with every noise etc.

Will get him back out tomorrow for another walk !

Nice meteing you all.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve!

What a beautiful little boy you have there!! I absolutely adore the smooths!! I just wondered who Winston's sire is? The Sherae Kennels have frozen semen from a cream boy from the UK and he is the daddy to my cream girl, Suki. Winston has a very similar face to Suki so I wondered if they were related!

Nicki,

Yes his father was from frozen sperm as well. This is his family tree and Winston pedigree name is "Sherae Storm Trooper". I wonder if Winston has a distant step sister??

Hi Steve,

They are distantly related.....Suki's daddy is Romanyrye Polar Bear, which is Winstons Great Grandad! I remember reading that the Sherae Kennels had imported semen from Polar Bear to bring the cream line into their breeding, so he definitely played a big part in Winstons life! :D
