Another Story Of The Rainbow Bridge

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All of the recent arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a day like this before. But the dogs that had been waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway leading to The Bridge to watch.
It wasn't long before an elderly dog came into view; head hung low and tail dragging. The other dogs, the ones who had been there for a while, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this happen far too often.

The old dog approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with no sign of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other dogs waiting at The Bridge, this dog had not been restored to youth and made healthy and vigorous again. As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of the other dogs watching him. He knew he was out of place here and the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be.

But, alas, as he approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who apologized, but told him that he would not be able to pass. Only those dogs that were with their people could pass over Rainbow Bridge. With no place else to turn to, the elderly dog turned towards the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other dogs like himself, also elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to The Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting.

One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the dogs that had been there for awhile to explain it to him.

"You see, that poor dog was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue just as you see him now, an older dog with his fur graying and his eyes clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only the love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence. Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort him across The Bridge."

The first dog thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?"

As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the gloom lifted. Approaching The Bridge could be seen a single person and among the older dogs, a whole group was suddenly bathed in a golden light and they were all young and healthy again, just as they were in the prime of life.

"Watch, and see," said the second dog.

A second group of dogs from those waiting came to the pathway and bowed low as the person neared. At each bowed head, the person offered a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. The newly restored dogs fell into line and followed him towards The Bridge. They all crossed The Bridge together.

> "What happened," the newer arrival asked.

"That was a rescuer. The dogs you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of his work. They will cross when their new families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor dogs that they couldn't place on earth across The Rainbow Bridge."

"I think I like rescuers," said the first dog.

"So does God," replied the second.

No I don't think I have either Michael. I have so much admiration and regard for those who do but I could not stand it.
I hate the thought of these beautiful creatures, indeed any dogs being unhappy.
They ask for so little and give so much. :)

I stay away from rescues and shelters because I would be thrown out, everytime I walk into a shelter an argument starts. Nothing but the workers and so called experts would be euthanized with me around, I would be opening all the cages at night helping them all to escape.

I am not into rescue, I no longer drive due to poor eyesight. Rescues are usually far away from where I live. Dogs are not allowed on buses or trains. I wouldn't mind to foster a chow for brief periods, but even then, the dog needs to be picked up.

I wanted to publish the pic of this unfortunate little guy because I saved the pictures just before he was euthanized.

I had called the shelter long distance that morning, left messages, sent emails, no one returned my messages. At noon, finally someone answered the phone. The woman told me the chow will not be available for adoption for some time, I then offered to come and look at the chow, she then told me he was euthanized that morning. By late afternoon the photos were taken off petfinder. The chow rescue may have been able to help, this poor guy was on petfinder's for only a couple of days, the shelter has no evening hours. They wouldn't even wait till after the new year holidays. They claimed he nipped, bit everyone, except the groomer. I don't know what the issue was, but not even to give the dog a chance?
I am fine, I just thought the chow at least deserves a little spot on the www.

I have a little story. One of my nieces was married to a horrible man, but he loved his kids and.........animals. Their cat had surgery. My niece reminded him to pick up the cat Friday afternoon. He forgot, she was upset having to pay the vet for another night.

Hubby called some friends, without his wife's knowledge, he went to the vet's hospital, no one was there. He and his friends took off the hinges of the back door, he took his cat, two dogs he knew were strays, healthy, waiting for a forever home.

Husband returns home with cat and two dogs. Wife said what is she going to tell the vet the next day. Husband went back, dismantled the back door again and returned all three animals to their cages. The next day, my niece went to pick up the cat, she admired the two doggies looking for a forever home, the vet let her have the dogs to foster and didn't bill for the extra stay of their cat. Happy ending.

A few years ago there was a Chow, (if I remember right I'm sure it was a Chow), that was being held for some legal stuff it was in the shelter for along time, people tried everything they could to get the Chow out of there but nothing helped, one night they had a break-in, the Chow was never seen or heard from again, the owners didn't even know what happen to the Chow. Sounds kind of ery but the Chow didn't get killed I guess.

That's my way of doing thing's, no discussions, no arguments, no listening to who thinks its the best way, just do it. It wouldn't take much for me to become one of those hard core, radical activist people. Pekoe would be there with Picket signs saying, "set my people free"

The story is of a chow, it's even been on this site before. There is a web page about it. The chow bit some stupid news paper boy who came into the house uninvited. according to the site for the chow, the chow bit the teenage on the aXX for coming into the house, the teenager's father who had already raised a child that didn't understand the concept of privacy, decided to bullie the doctors and others in the town, (guess this guy was some bigshot) and they tried to make out that the chow, charged through the door to get to the teenager and nearly killed him. Of course that didn't explain the intial medical report of minor lacerations, no lasting, permanent or signaficant damage done. Or the fact that the sunday paper was lying nearly in the living room of the house in perfect fresh off the truck condition, (the teenage said he threw it into the house from the porch)

I do wish someone would update and say what happened to the chow finally, I hope he found a new forever home...
