Zena is back in hospital

When I got home from work this evening Zena did not look right to me, she did not greet me in her usual way, and would not look at her supper, I took her temperature and it was 39.7 immediately I phond the vet, and got her back to the hospital, he examined her, and took a blood slide, this showed that she is very anemic, and that the antibiotics he had given her were not working, he has now put her onto another course of antibiotics, and is keeping her in hospital tonight to see how she responds, my poor girl is once again very sick, she lost a lot of blood during the operation, and we really were pleased with her progress, until this evening. I will let you know tomorrow how she responds. She is very weak, but the Vet says that he will do everythingto keep her going and bring her home alive. Please say another little prayer for her to day.

Carolyn I'm so sorry to here that Zena is back in the hospital, can they give her iron to build her up or a blood transfusion like they do for us. I just went through that myself after a surgery I had in July. I was so anemic it effected my breathing and I was so weak I couldn't do anything it took me a couple of months to build up my iron and strength.

I will be thinking of Zena. Iron is the only thing I can think of to give Zena her strength back. My mom used to boil baby beef and I'd be drinking the broth. I was anemic as a child and when I was pregnant. When I get tired, I eat a steak. Seems to give me strength. Sorry can't think of anything else to say.

You are so acutely aware of your Chows' behavioural nuances that we all hope and pray you caught Zena in time for the vet intervention to help. I am sure you are very worried though. So know there are definitely a lot of people out there praying to the Chow gods to be kind to you both.

I stopped what I was doing and said a prayer for little Zena. I am hoping for a speedy recovery. I know how hard pyometra is and how hard the recovery is even without a complication. Poor little girl, I will keep her in my prayers. Please keep us posted.

I phoned the Vet this morning and he said that Zena was looking better this morning, he will phone me this evening and let me know when she will be able to come home.
Thank you all so much for your prayers and kind thoughts, it's wonderfull having such a large family out there praying for Zena, you are truly a wonderful family and I love you all very much.
Will let you know when I hear from the vet.

Spoke to the Vet this evening, he is keeping her in to night, she had some supper and went for a walk to do her business, but he wants to make sure she will not have a set back

Zena doing better today, tried to bite the black guy that has to take her out for a walk, so she must be feeling better, sorry she is racist, as she is not used to being around people of colour.
