It is apparent to me why people in other countries think of the USA as being full of boorish, ignorant, and unmannered people. Don't ever believe you can make such caustic statements about a system of government, and then think you will temper your words with rubbish like, 'No offense intended, just my opinion.' Personally, I think there are plenty of trashy americans that could use a little 'nannying'.

Layla. You live in washington state which has excellent health care for EVERYONE!!!

Washington has free health clinics for everyday healthcare problems. They have health clinics that work on sliding fee scale based on your income. They also have a state wide health care plan that is based on your income. It goes by the month previous so you will have to fill out a change of circumstance form. Washington has all kinds of services. From food, to housing to paying your utilities and getting new clothes. You have to do some leg work to find where everything is, but it is there to help people for short terms. Just a little FYI bit.

Your first sentence is an example of what triggered my response to this thread.

I do not think that Brits care about their pets more than people in the US, and frankly that is just an ignorant thing to say or believe.

The UK is probably the greatest nation in the history of mankind, taken in whole. The modern UK is a mess because of the "nanny" attitude.

Judy, are you afraid to leave your dogs alone....and free to go outside on their own, at your home because the nanny might storm the house and take your dogs if they bark? Does nanny know best? I think not. In America, that would not happen.

And my being "rude" on the internet to people I do not know does not equate to a mental deficiency or lack of intelligence or compassion for animals. Ziggy is in good hands.

Many people outside the US do not understand our health care system. It's the best in the world, by far.

I know a guy who has no job, no insurance, 40 years old. He was basically a street person and ate food from the garbage. He now lives with his mom in Peoria, Az.

He has hepatitis and his liver is failing. He goes to the hospital every few weeks to have his stomach pumped. He's probably going to die, but he is on a liver transplant list.

He has no job, is unable to work and has no insurance, yet he receives the best health care available.

Yes Judy, in some ways.

By the way, how do you feel about your "Dangerous" dog act?

" .....It also singled out four breeds for particular attention - the Pit Bull Terriers, Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino, and the Fila Brazileiro.

It was made illegal to own any of these dogs unless a court had directed that it was on a list of exempted dogs."

Maybe someday the nanny will protect the UK from all the evil Chows. Nanny does know best, after all.

So, if someone states an opinion that rubs you the wrong way, the nanny should step in and make everything okay for you?

The USA is so full of ignorant people... that must be why we are one of the worst, most backward nations on earth. The USA is basically horrible and stupid.

I get the impression that Nuke is not going to be happy anywhere.

Personally, I'm glad that I was born and raised in the U.S.. I am "proud to be an American". Oh yes, we have problems. Problems well beyond a war-mongering President, but who doesn't? And at least we live in a democracy and have the power to change things we don't like.

I wish people in the U.S. did care more about their pets. I wish they saw them as more than a commodity, cash crop, or accessory. Hopefully, we can continue to educate people and close down bad breeders and puppy mills. Do away with cruel practices in shelters. But we have to take action- write letters, make phone calls, help out- rather than just preach to the choir here about how to fix things.

Yes - that would appear to be the case!
Such a shame. Maybe it would be best for him to rehome Ziggy to a healthier, more stable environment - it must be upsetting for him to have to live with such negative vibes.
Then Nuke could just then go and slit his own throat and put himself out of his misery - this world would appear not to be for him.

It's true, there are people in the United States that I feel should be sterilized against their will. And there are others that should be exiled from decent society. But that is my dictatorship mentality at work.

It takes more than disagreeing with me to have me wish these things on people, though I derive satisfaction from the mental image of pummeling some folks that spew ideas for the shock of it without regard to others feelings or beliefs...present company excluded, I am sure. (Where is the tongue in cheek smiley when you need one?)

You people are great. I did not attack anyone personally. All I did was respond to the ignorance perpetrated against Americans throughout this thread. Funny, you people just lapped it all up like it was an accepted fact that Americans just are terrible pet owners. I disagree.

I stated my opinions of the UK just as others in this thread have, including Americans, have stated about the US. Veiled and "polite" as they were, they are insulting to me.

It's all good and polite to explain how the UK and Europe are superior to the US when it comes to animal care. Heck, in Germany , they don't even like to give sheltered animals to Americans. But, that's just a polite opinion. No facts that I saw. I did the same thing.

I have not said anything about any one of you personally. Read all the posts of this thread again.

By the way, I'm a quite happy person. Even now I am in a great mood. Football is on and my fantasy team is in a close game. It's not easy to read a person and make a judgment of their character based on a few hundred words of text on the internet.

Well so long as you are happy, I am happy that Ziggy is in a happy atmosphere.

So, belay slitting your throat - or was it your wrists!! 8)

I won't have my own land spoken about badly by other people. I can say what I like about it - but no one else can!!

And regarding the young man from Wales, I might not actually agree with one or two things he has said but he is from Wales, so anybody has got to get past me if they want to get at him - and just remember he is 14 yrs. old - testing his wings! O:)

I can paste him 'cos I am Welsh too but woe betide anybody else who wants to, - Eh! Brad, cariad!!

Anyway, Nuke, enjoy the rest of your day. :D I intend to enjoy the rest of my evening - by the way, that is just a really valid and true point that you cannot argue with! The Island gets evening before you lot over The Pond - so who enjoys evening first!! :laughloud:

All the better with a "Miss Marple" mystery on the TV, a nice Sunday dinner eaten, the washing up done, M & M fed and watered and a nice piece of embroidery to get on with. Add to that a couple of glasses of cold Hock - perfect!

So - Iechyd da bob Cymro!

Renae,

Thank you. I like that photo too - Zhuyos Mum took that when she visited us this time last year. Milly and Mabel loved her and missed her so much when she went home. They had sad eyes and went to check the room she slept in for days. :)

Oh Nuke, Nuke, Nuke...such a double standard. I presented my opinion as well and you took it as an attack on you. Silly!

I doubt the UK will ever have to bear the shame of Beckham fighting and killing dogs. Heck, there are some in our country that don't even understand what the fuss is about! The image of the USA is shaped by such behaviors. No wonder they think we don't care about our animals in other lands.

One thing I did want to point out was in response to this statement you made:
Many people outside the US do not understand our health care system. It's the best in the world, by far.

I know a guy who has no job, no insurance, 40 years old. He was basically a street person and ate food from the garbage. He now lives with his mom in Peoria, Az.

He has no job, is unable to work and has no insurance, yet he receives the best health care available.

He will never pay those bills, but you and I will, in higher health costs. And as far as nannying and health care goes, I have 3 letters for you- HMO.

I'm sorry you felt insulted by comments saying we don't love our pets as much. I wasn't insulted, because I have seen too much animal abuse and ignorance in the USA to believe such comments don't have any foundation. But of course, all that is just my opinion.

And... you may get the evening before us Yanks, but in return, we get the mornings first. I'd rather slit my throat than have it any other way. :)

Of course saying Americans do not care about thier pets is offensive. However, I am adult enough to know that I care and love animals therefore it does not apply to me.

I also know that many many many Americans spend as much of thier time that is humanly possibly to saving animals and educating people.

No matter the nation having other people talk negativly about it is going to cause pain. It is like having someone bad mouth someone in your family. Even if you agree it does not seem as if it is their place to talk.

When making criticisms about another nation it should be done very carefully if at all.

All nations have problems --most have huge problems. We all have horrible histories. I cannot think of any nation off the top of my head (and I think it is very unlikely) that is without blemish. Espcially developed nations. It took allot to get that way and not always from being nice!! :D But we all have allot of wonderful things about us as well. I am also not sure that anyone can fully appreciate a nation unless you have lived there for quite sometime or even a born citizen. I do know one thing for sure. It is abnoxious and annoying for anyone to go around saying "we are the best on earth," or "we are the best in the world," or "no one is better than we are." It is cool to think it. I think my husband is the best in the whole world, but I don't go around telling everyone that....until just right now, but that was to prove a point....

Nuke - think again old friend!!

If we get evening before you - as of course we do - we are in evening now, in fact it is 23.14 hrs. as I type, we are going to go to bed any minute now, when I get up in the morning, you will be going to bed - so therefore, I will get morning before you. So actually, we get Christmas before you, Easter before you, every weekend before you, cor blimey, I even get your birthday before you!! :laughloud: and that is how it is going to be so long as this planet of ours spins the way it does.

Course our friends in Australia...............well they beat us on The Island - damn it!

I will even get morning a few minutes before Brad - he is in Wales and I live a few miles East of him - so even though technically, we are in the same time zone, actually, I am a few minutes ahead of him but I am several hours away from you.

Anyway, have a lovely evening .....................and....

Brad you just bl$$$y well get to sleep, you have school in the morning!

Hi all,

Just wanted to respond to the title of this thread. I disagree. There is a pet overpopulation in the UK which is why the RSPCA adopted the slogan 'A Dog is for Life not just for Christmas.'

There are also Animal shelters such as Wood Green and the Blue Cross as well as countless others that are not so widely known.

There have been many documentries shown to do with these animal shelters as well as animal cruelty etc.

As long as there is mankind there will be those that love their animals and those that think an animal is an expendable toy that they can do whatever they want with.

Humans are the worst breed of animal there is really.
