Calling the vet today..... :-(
I have to call the vet today....I was hoping to hold off until after Keira was born but Chi-Chings hips have been bothering him alot. He is not walking right. He walks like an old, old dog. He has been kind of depressed lately, and yesterday when we were playing with him I noticed him walking away and he doesn't even bend his back legs, he moves them like they are both broken. He doesn't do that all the time but it is getting alot more frequently.
So, it looks like things just won't wait until he is two. He will probably be going in this coming week. Hopefully we get some sort of good news. My husband is joking that we need to look for a wheelchair for him! lol

They have some amazing meds these days for dogs with that kind of pain that will make his life more bearable so keep the faith. My Bear2 has some sort hip thing going on that only seems to affect his right rear leg, but really, the whole hip system the vet said is stiff. She said I don't need to worry about it yet, until he tells me its time to do something about it. She was encouraging in that it was something that could be dealt with when the time came.
good luck and keep us posted...never fun to go to the vet when our pets are hurting...worse for us than them methinks!!

Well, he has an appt. for Friday at 3.......
I am just hoping that it is going to turn out to be a wierd quirk that he has developed. I am not sure if it is his hips or knees bothering him....either way, it is hard to watch. I am hoping we can get away with just meds.... if not, looks like surgery may be in his future
He is seeing a great vet who is also a orthopedic specialist, so we should get a good idea of what is going on. I will keep everyone updated. I trust my vets completely with my animals and know that if it comes down to surgery, they will do a great job with him. It is the recovery that I am not looking forward to..... but we will do what we have to.

Chows are supposed to walk stiff legged, that is called a stilted gait. There is suppose to be little bend at the knee, and the hock joint is supposed to be straight. Sometimes it takes some puppies longer to straighten up than others. How old is he?

Chi-Ching will be 2 in august I believe. The way he walks is not the typical stilted gait..... it is not all the time either, but seems to be getting more frequent. His legs are completely straight and do not bend at all, to walk he has to kind of bring them around the side in kind of a small circle... if I still had my camera, I would videotape it so I could show you, but my camera was stolen.
It also doesn't last too long when he does that, maybe 5-10 minutes, and then he sort of shakes it off and starts walking normal again. It was happening maybe once a week...now it is about 5 or so times a day.

Awww, Chingers is much too young to walk so old.
I know it hurts you more to watch your baby walk, than it probably hurts Chingers!
Just a thought to run past your vet, if indeed Chingers is having hip problems. There are injections available for short term use that may help. It's a cocktail of lidocaine and cortisone injected into the hip joints.
Sometimes, a couple of injections is all that is ever needed.
Be aware though, there may be side effects.
One is degeneration of muscle tissue if over used.
One or two inections is all I would consider.
Just thought you might like to discuss this option,
in case your vet doesn't mention it.
I hope all goes well with your baby!

Poor Chi-Ching
Are you building up to re-homing this dog too? Will he become overly aggressive after the birth of your daughter? Will the health issues be insurmountable and too expensive? Stay tuned......

I'm sorry that you hate our dogs so much, but it should be pretty evident that we love our dogs. Your response to a responsible, loving dog owner who is concerned for her pet's health is rude, uncalled for, and just plain hateful. We have a friendly community and your type of support is not appreciated.

Awww, slow day on the other site? Seriousely, you have got to have the most boring life ever if I am so important that you have to keep coming back for more.
Chi-Ching is not being rehomed, he LOVES kids(and 'overly aggressive' is just a joke on words when it concerns him), and we are seeing the vet so that if he needs surgery, we can get it done. What more you would like me to do, I am not sure. But dang, I swear, you must honestly be just bored as all hell.
