Sad little Chow tail

Post by Shan&Kayla »

Kayla is such a stinker! She will be a love and let me groom her whole body, but throw a fit when it's time for the tail! So I have only been able to do superficial brushing on her tail. So It would look great on the outside...but I knew what was lurking beneath the surface lol. Of course it started to mat all over, but again, what could I do since she runs in circles and sits on it when I try to work on it? I was giving Kayla a bath today and decided that I had to do something . I bit the bullet and trimmed her beautiful plume short. I just couldn't see a good way to tackle it.:( (I have little time and energy, with a three year old to chase, plus I am pregnant  ) So the matting is gone, but now the hair on her tail is only about 5 inches long  She has just been making a mess of herself this summer, when I let her out in the yard. She just gave me such a look! I think she is peeved at the indignity of it all....

I hear you! I need to do something about Shiloh's tail. She will tolerate the combing, the brushing, and sometimes the Mars Coat stripper everywhere but her tail. Her tail looks like Kayla's. I brought her to the groomer's once but she was really stressed about it. I can do most of the grooming okay but Shiloh & I still need to negotiate on the tail.

Shiloh is a mix right? She seems very similar to Kayla in her build and coat. I adopted Kayla from a shelter so I don't know if she is actually a mix or not  Here's a couple of pics from before Kayla majorly blew her coat for the (hot) summer. She looks so much better with her Winter coat. Lately she is looking just a little scraggly  When My batteries charge I will post a new pic.

ok, camara is all charged. Here is a pre-tail trim pic from a few days ago, and a couple showing her funny new "do" lol I also trimmed her butt, because everytime she went outside, she came back in with branches, leaves etc, attached to all her rear end fluff. Is it just me or does her bottom look very "abrupt" now lol

Hi,
Yes, Shiloh is a mix but since she is a stray, I have no idea of the combination. She has the blue/black tongue and most of the Chow Chow characteristics. A while ago I checked out the Euraiser breed which I think that Kayla and Shiloh have so much resemblance. You might be interested in reading about how this breed came about. They were developed from the crossing of a Wolfspitz, Chow, and Samoyed.

I read a bit about this breed and see so many similar traits in Shiloh. I did post on the Euraiser site with questions and pictures of Shiloh. The non-Euraiser traits were pointed out to me. However, I do think that it could be the Chow and GSD mix will produce an Euraiser-like mix.
Check them out. See what you think.
By the way, does Kayla's tail have the hook at the end? My Shiloh does but my pure Chow doesn't. It was somewhat divided on Chows having the hook.

yep, Her tail has a "hook" at the end. It does make it that much harder to brush her tail out too! I don't know if you can tell in the pics, but her tail is almost a spiral when she curls it over her back. Other times it just looks curved, with the very end curled. I kept looking at her today missing her fluffy flag (tail) and wanting to chuckle at the same time  I told Kayla I was sorry I had to do such a thing, and she just huffed at me and rolled her eyes. (I swear! she really did!)
