How fun! I must try to see if my shutterfly.com pics work here as well. I know links do, but it's more fun to get the 'instant' gratification of photos right then and there as you were able to show. :)
The girls are lovely as always, Judy.
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Tracy, and no, it doesn't take too long to groom them. They love being combed and a good combing through every day keeps them neat.
They are not too keen on being bathed but they get ' dunked ' about three times a year or more if they need it. 8)
They like having their faces washed though and will go into the bathroom and pull down face cloths and towels to do their own eyes.
They will also pinch the tea towels in the kitchen so we basically have a rule - it a towel, flannel or tea towel is on the floor it goes into the washing machine - I really don't fancy, much as I love them, wiping the dishes with ' sleepy-men ' from their eyes on the tea towels. !! :D

lucky M&M! Kayla gets bathed about every month or so. She just gets too dirty lol. She runs around with a scruffy little Chihuahua and they just look a mess after a few weeks ;) Her favorite thing right now is to dig a BIG hole by the side of the house and roll in it  The stinker! I have also fallen in LOVE with the undercoat rake I bought. Kayla is not thrilled about grooming, so I am now able to quickly get out the twigs, and leaves, and other odds and ends she pickes up outside  We have a 1/4 acre yard, so she just loves to run around out there chasing squirrels, and birds. Silly dirty chow

How Lovely

Post by carolyn dewrance »

This is so nice to be able to see everyones chows and other dog, makes the site so exciting and so much more fun I am sure the creators of this site are very happy that we are enjoying it so much.
I have copied all these photos to my own photo album that I call chows of the world.

OhTaz, he is absolutely gorgeous. Yes Milly and Mabel very often lie like that or sometimes with just one paw tucked under.
Does he lie with his little back feet stretched out with the pads facing upwards.
Beautiful little chow boy! :D :D

Thank you.. :D He is a lovely boy.
I never undestood why people say that the Chow is a one man dog.
Diego is very outgoing. :D (But i haven't met to many Chows tough.)

Yes, He often sleeps like that.. It's so cute. :D
Only Chows does that? (With their feet tucked under)

I think that Chows do tend to be more aloof than other dogs. But on this site, we don't really recognise that chows are dogs! They are chows and there lies the difference. :)
However, I think that if you can socialise a baby chowling really well, you end up with a nice sociable grown up chow.
Milly and Mabel are very sociable - we think because we took them out to meet people often when they were young.
But even now, when visitors come to our house, they will be pleased to see them, welcome them then go away until they are leaving then Milly and Mabel will appear to see them off on their way.
So I think you will find that Diego will grow to be a very proud Chow gentleman - and I hope that like Milly and Mabel, he will remember he was a chowling and have a lovely game now and then. :) :)

Thank you - they are gorgeous but as for hugging them - only very occasionally and only on their terms! Sometimes they can be affectional but other times they don't give us a second glance! :)
They do love us though and always want to know where we are!

Don't hold you breath Taz - he is only a baby! :D :D
When he is a big grown up man-chow, things might be a little different!
However, he will always love you and you will see the love in his eyes as we do in Milly and Mabel's eyes. :)

Hi All!!

Post by Guest »

Hi all, Hi Judy, & Milly & Mabel! Ive missed you all a bunch, I didt realize taht they reactivated the site! I got cute professional pics of Grizz & Raven, I will scan & post asap! :-) As for cuddly chows, Ive noticed males tend to be much snugglier! My mom has Grizzly's litter sister, & shes very aloof & picky, but the boys are goofy & snuggly at least with me, but they look at strangers as someone who just hasnt told them how great they are yet! :-) BTW Diego is beautful! And mine both lay that way to! Heather Grizz & Raven

Hehe.. Maybe...
But I hope he won't change to much..
And he is not a puppy, or not for long..
He is soon 1 year. (Ok, dogs isn't adults before they are 2 years :P )

Is the European Chow much different from the American?
I mean in personality and looks.

Taz, I am sure Diego won't change too much! I also heard that boy chows are more cuddly. :)

But, I don't know a boy chow so I don't know except what Lou tells me about Zhuyo - now he seems to be very affectionat. He lives in San Francisco. :D

Regarding the European Chow versus the American Chow, the American Chows seem to have a slightly longer muzzle than the Europeans - but there again, Gwrol, the beautiful red from Tennessee has a shorter muzzle just like Milly and Mabel. :)

Regarding temperament, they all seem to have Attitude with a capital 'A '. I always thought that M & M were the Queens of Attitude until we read about the antics of Pekoe who is a black chow girl and Pumpkin who was a red/cinnamon/golden girl who sadly died some time ago. :(

Now Pekoe is a baggage - wonderful! Similarly Pumpkin! (The Happy Hunting Ground will never be the same again!!)

So it would seem that the Europeans and the Americans are very similar.

It would appear that Chow is Chow is Chow!! Thank Heavens.

p.s. I have never actually met an American Chow - just read about them on this site and with personal e-mails. Come to that, I havn't met many European Chows - M & M's blood line chows, briefly, a beautiful black called Jamie the other side of town and an elderley red lady chow in the neighbouring small town.
