Help, thinking of adopting a sweet chow

Hey! I have a big family (4 children all under the age of 6). All my children are very sweet and I want a dog that can live inside with us and will let the kids cuddle and kiss it. I’ve looked up information about chows online and I am just drawn to them. I think they are so beautiful and we found a chow in our area for adaption. I am a stay at home mom and would be able to work with her all the time but I’m nervous because we have heard conflicting stories about chows and families. Obviously this would be a big finical decision as well. I am debating turning my big laundry room into a room just for her. BUT- we have never had a dog 
I have never trained a dog and I have no idea what I’m doing. All I know is that she would be very loved and she would be taken care of. Can anyone give some pointers on training a chow or if you think this is a good idea.
