Spider bite???

I had something' strange happen to Loki yesterday. It was a typical morning...daily walk, breakfast, etc...nothing unusual. He always has access to a screened in porch when the weather is pleasant. When I returned home, about four hours later, I noticed that he had what appeared to be a hot spot on his back. He had chewed all the hair off of an area about the size of a golf ball. I phoned the vet first thing this morning as when we woke today the golf size lesion was now the size if a grapefruit with a noticeable red center. They are treating it as a spider bite. He is on antibiotics, Benadryl and a steroid cream. They also gave him a laser treatment. They put a collar on him as well.
I am keeping an eye on him and I am to call vet tomorrow with a report. Has anyone had a similar situation? We do live in a wooded area. So strange as the symptoms appeared in a few hours.

Yikes! I don't have experience with spider bites but I hope he is ok!
