I would suggest you get pet insurance. I currently use trupanion. I haven't had to use it. you should have insurance. I had an emergency situation with my one year old chow chow and the emergency room was expensive. I would say the worst thing is to have to worry about money when your fur baby is ill. I advocate pet insurance because I wish I had it when my baby, Candy got sick. I also never thought my puppy would be so sick because my previous chow chow, Cookie was never ill till after nine years old.
We are a firm believer in pet insurance. We had it on our two older chows before they passed. We know have it on our three youngsters. We had to have TPLO surgery on both of our older chows and it was very helpful with the bills. There are some things hereditary that it doesn't cover like hip dysplasia but to us it is well worth it. We have My Pet Insurance through Nationwide.
