Is my Fei Chow Open/Smooth Bred?

Hi,

Been trying to understand more about the difference between the Open/Close Face and Rough/Smooth Coat too. The place where I got her says she's pure bred, however most of the time, the vet tech and some helpers from pet welfare organization will say that my mix has some chow in it.

I reckon mine is Open/Smooth kind and how to tell if its pure or mix?

your Chow looks indeed liken an open/smooth Chowtype to me.
The blue tongue and the straight hint legs with the curled up tail, are the most dominant features of pure Chow.
Straight up trianlge ears and the loose skin with the lion mane are the next clear indication for a pure bred.
There are nice breeder pages on the internet and ChowChow organization posting pure bred cirteria as well.
But on a frist look, he seems a pure Chow to me.

Your chow looks purebred. And is rough coated and open faced.

Thanks for the advice! I initial thought she's smooth cause her fur feels like my Japanese Spitz fur hehe.

Without a doubt she is a rough coat. Anyone saying smooth is mistaken. Open face as well. Hard to say based on the pics if she is purebreed, but definitely appears to have all of the common traits.

she is a rough coated/open faced chow of the original type. See the picture of my Dreamdancer in my signature, they look a lot alike. If you do a search on this site for original chow, or Freud's chows you'll see that the first chow's in the US looked a lot like yours does.
