I have been using Nutros Lamb and rice for my last 2 chows, I even put a large tablespoon full of wet Lamb and rice
into the dry and add a little hot water to warm up the refrigerated wet food. I also add a fish oil capsule to the dinner and her coat is gorgeous.

This has been widely debated. Some believe only way to go is a raw natural diet. But if you are going to use dry dog food it's best to find a brand that is all natural, grain free & free of by-product meal cause chows can have grain -allergies.

I currently use purina pro plan select chicken but its hard to find in my area so I am considering changing to Blue Buffalo Wilderness chicken which is available at our local farm/feed store. I also supplement Belle & Chumley's diet with wild salmon oil once a week.

Definetly use one of the better brands. We also use Nutro Natural Choice the lamb and rice formula. We mix a heaping fork full of the same formula of the can into the dry kibble.

My chow puppy was having Purina pro Plan chicken&Rice for about 5 months,
and everytime I went to store, the workers told me it's not good dog food
comparing to its price.
And I actually asked same question here and many chow owners recommanded
The Orio(?) dry food. i couldnt find it here in Toronto.

Now she eats Nutro's natural choice chicken& brown rice.
She loves it! She doesnt even eat old purina food.

Her poop seems better than before. I like it because it's natural food.

I'd guess you are thinking of Orijen, which is made by Champion Petfoods in Edmonton. You can find a list of retailers in Toronto here: http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/storeLocato ... sting.aspx

When my Chows were pups I had them on Wolf Cub. I fed them that until they were about 8 months old. Unfortunately, I didn't stick to the brand. They grew up large and healthy. Then I had them on Iams and they ended up itching and scratching and Max was licking his paws all the time. I went back to Wolf King, the adult food. All the itching and scratching and the licking of the paws stopped. I'm keeping them on this brand, it works for them.

This video really helped me when I was deciding what to feed the boys. Great education if you're not familiar with ingredients.

My question for you is what are you willing to do and what is available for you to implement?
Not everyone has access or the money to implement the most desired diet for our furkids.
IMO - a true raw diet is probably the best thing you can do but not all can or want to do that.
A while back I posted this topic but if you check out the forum on diet you might find more pertinent information.

Ulimately, the less processed food, the better. That goes for both your pets and you.

I feed my Chow Blue Buffalo and Orijen. I fed him Orijen but the protein levels were too high; though its a great food. When I mix the two, his stool is firm. I also give him him raw chicken strips and lamb bones with a LITTLE meat on it still. A site that i used to pick the brand was in the link below
