I made my weekly visit into town on Tuesday. Our town is only a mile long, if it wasn't for stopping to talk with friends, proprietors of the shops, visiting the stores can go quickly. One of the shops received some beautiful art - I should have written the artist's name - next time when I go in. They were actually proofs of original paintings. One in particular caught my eye & grabbed my heart; it was of a wolf laying down looking up at the moon, done in pastels and vibrant colors - somewhat like an abstract. It reminded me so much of my Tess. I told the shopkeeper about my Tess.

I always have the memories of Tess in my mind - there were so many. Some I didn't write down, although this is one I shared.
In the beginning of our relationship Tess & I were novice amateur astronomers. We watched the comet Hale-Bopp together. Sitting side by side we stared upward toward the western sky. I started watching with wonder, talking to her and pointing upward, Tess' eyes following to the exact spot. We spent several months, several hours, several times a week, watching the tail of the comet. The Southern California night was warm. We were always girls of the night.
I would like to think that she was really seeing what I saw, but knowing Tess as I did, I knew she wanted please me.

This forum helped me when we lost our Tess. I visit often.

I'm am truely sorry for your loss! I know how hard it can be loosing your best friend. I try to remember mine but it is getting hard to remember even though she was the light at the end of the dark tunnel that I was walking through!

The memories are bitter sweet. The old saying "better to have love & lost then never have loved at all" seems to apply. Tess gave us so many memories. I am happy that I was able to write them down when the memories were still fresh. This forum was my outlet and still is. Our Chows loved us no matter who we were - always giving light to some heavy times in our lives. I used to love to snuggle against Tess's muzzle, just were the indent was - seems my cheek just fit there. She used to "hug" me back by pressing against me. I will always remember her Chow smell like clothes drying outside; sweet & fresh. If you start writing you will remember, things will come into your mind and you will say "oh yes," you will give a little laugh or a little tear. I too am sorry for your loss. Maybe some day another chowling. I have to re-visit my lifestyle soon & make the right decision. It would have to be another big black alfa girl Chow - one to save, probably one that is middle aged or senior as we are getting older and it wouldn't be fair to a puppy. Take care Chow master!

Thanks so much. I have many great memories of my chows. I mean our oldest one I have ever even heard of living died of old age he died at age 18. He was a great companion. I always remember seeing his bear like face and walking him in our back yard. And when I was home I knew I was safe because he was there. In memory of our chows my they rest in peace.
P.s. I hat using R.I.P because it doesn't sound nice but may they rest in peace sounds better. And thank you for sharing your story!

Ok.
Cassie when young (8-9weeks) would really hate to be inside her crate. She'd bark a lot, then will try to bite my finger if I sit and try to touch her to comfort, as i am quick she would be biting her teeth into the mesh gate -missing my finger- now after several time like that, she'll give a hrumph! And turn her back on me. Yes, she'll turn around and lie down. Showing me her rear and her dissatisfaction (almost like she is saying: Oh it is no use to talk to you!)
She had that attitude. I find it funny as. She'd rather face the wall than face me!

Ha! That is so funny. I have heard of dogs doing that just never knew anyone who had it happen to them. It is quite silly. I really enjoyed reading your story.

Here's one of my favorite funny memories/stories of my beloved Chloe who passed away a year agoJanuary.

Do you remember the TV program "Golden Girls" and when the character Sophia would say "picture this, Sicily, 1939, etc"

Here is my spin-off on that. "Picture this, my bathroom, 7 PM, on a stormy Saturday night"

I'd worked in my flower beds most of the day and storms were predicted for the evening. I decided to take a bubble bath to relax my weary bones before the storms came in. Lo and behold, I'm sitting in the bathtub and out of the blue came this giant clap of thunder. The next thing I new - I had this big, red chow in the bathtub with me. I don't know who was more surprised, me or Chloe. She just sat there, covered with bubbles, and looked at me - as if to ask "what am I doing here?" :?

This is a copy of a post from May 2009 after my mother passed away about Titus:

I have to share! I’m sad, but I’m also so proud of Titus.

My mom passed away last week. It had been six weeks since Titus saw her (from the onset of her illness, rehab and her final hospital stay).

Titus and his Grandma were very close. She lived with us. She loved him so much, and always smiled when she would talk about him.
They kept each other company when we were not home!

After her horrific diagnosis Hospice became involved. We brought her home.
As soon as she was back in her room, Titus immediately ran up the steps, put his paws on her bed, and proceeded to jump in bed with her! GRANDMA WAS HOME!
They were so happy to see each other!

Titus’ daily job was to meet/greet the Hospice workers, guide them up the steps to her room, stay in the room while they assisted Grandma, then escort them to the door as they left. He did this for six days, allowing everyone to pet and love him.

We were all with her (including Titus) when she passed away peacefully.

The Hospice workers fell in love with him. They pulled me aside and advised me to keep a close eye on him. He will be grieving her loss as well.

We had to travel to Philly for her funeral; we found a Pet friendly hotel. We took him with us.

I am so very proud of my sweet little boy. So loyal. So sweet. He takes such wonderful care of his family!
Thanks for letting me share.

Dear Jackie,

How beautiful and touching. Thank you for sharing that precious memory.

I'm sending my deepest sympathy to you for the loss of your mom. I can sympathize with you. I lost my mom 32 yrs ago. to brain cancer. I still miss her so very much.

Do you still have Titus? If so, how is he doing?

Sending you a big, comforting hug from me and tail wags from Whitby, my red chow.

Take Care
Pam

One of my favorite memories of Chia, our first chow, was when we were going through obedience training and she refused to lay down. It was so embarrassing, all of the other "kids" were doing it on command and she just flat out refused to do it, to the point that we were pulled out of the class and sent outside for what I jokingly referred to as remedial lay-down training. I tried to explain to the instructor that she was a lady and wouldn't lay down on command unless there was a big ring on her finger, but he didn't find that particularly funny...
