TiVo's 1st vet visit

Post by TiVo's Mom »

We took the little guy in for his first check up with our vet and he did really well. He let the vet examine him without any problems. I asked my vet what his experience was with chows and he said just like about any other breed there are good and bad but it really depends on the training and socialization they get regardless of the breed. He was very good with TiVo so I was pleased with that based on some of the experiences others on the forum have had. The vet did say he heard a mild heart murmur but that he wasn't concerned yet based on his age but that he would keep an eye on it. At 5 months TiVo weighs 26 pounds so the vet said he'll probably only get to 35 or 40 pounds -does that sound right? That would be fine with me, I'm used to a larger dog but after losing my mal at only 9 years of age I'm hoping for a smaller dog that may not have some of the same issues as a large dog. I asked about entropion and he said that currently both of his eyelids are turned in a bit but that it was too early to say if it would turn in to anything more serious. I really appreciate all your input on the forum because I feel like I was much better able to assess my vets abilities. He's always been very good, he's a great diagnostician so I was hoping I wouldn't have to look for another vet if he didn't treat TiVo correctly. So far so good. So thanks for all the good advice. It really helps to have a place to go for good, practical information.

It always makes the vet visit easier when the chows like the vet
Moose is 6 months and weighs 50 pounds, his sister, same litter, weighs 51 pounds. just going by that it sounds like you will have a 35-40 pound baby.

What a good boy TiVo is! I love the name by the way

Sounds like you have a great vet on your side, he knows to judge each Chow by their individual personalities and behaviors and not to lock the whole breed down as the same. Glad to hear it went so well!

I'm so glad the visit went well.

I learned so much from seeing the specialist yesterday about entropian and I'm so glad that Fillyok recommended her vet!
