I've seen unique names of chows on here...Including Tippsy... And I was just wondering how y'all's chows got their names?

Tippsy got her's because when she was a pup she had black tips on her ears and tail, thus "Tippsy".

And Jasper got his after much deliberation and being shot down time after time with names... I was still obsessing over the Twilight book series and picked the name of the character that seemed to fit. Hints: Jasper. Now that I look back I see a lot of similarities between Jazz and the character in the book. For example, being from the south and having an issue biting... At least when Jazz was little. Now he just licks me to death.

And our first chow Cinder, got his name because he was black. so my mom came up with his name.

Ah, Nikki got hers from Saint Nicholas, cause she was my christmas present. (so for the female version we came up with Saint Nikki).
Oneill was named after a surfboard. Ryan had her hiding from his dad in his Oneill Surfboard tee shirt and Dad said what do you have there?? And Ryan replied.. ONEILL. He wasn't lying.

The modern Chow Chow is said to be from China. Hawaii is about 1/2 way (roughly) between mainland USA and China both geographically and culturally. I like the Hawaiian word "aloha" because, like the Italian word "ciao", it can mean either "hello" or "goodbye", depending upon the context in which used. I heard a long time ago that a dog's name should be no more than 2 syllables so that it is easily recognized and remembered by the dog. I thus shortened the word "aloha" to LOHA.

 That's funny. I love that!
Nikki's story is precious. :) I would've never come up with that.
When I first brought Jazz home, I was laying on my bed with him watching tv while he slept and of course my dad knocked on my door(we were trying to hide him from him at first). I simply layed Jazz half in a pile of stuffed animals and he blended in way too well.

Loha is a handsome boy. :) And I like how you came up with his name. :)

Molly was already named when we got her from the rescue. I thought I would pick another name, but really couldn't think of anything better, so decided to stay with "Molly". Our very first Airedale/lab mix was also named Molly, so sometimes I think of her as "Molly2".

With our little girl being a cream color, we decided to go with Powder Puff. It seems to fit so far. :)

Hi
I named Hugo because his father and grandfather were called that and I really liked it too so I asked the breederif she'd mind me calling our boy Hugo aswell, she didn't and that's that. Our spoodles name is Horten, our son named him that after the movie, "Horten Hears A Who?"

Bear got his name because the first time we saw him he looked just like a bear.

Minnie is named after my great-grandmother. My brother's bulldog is named after my grandfather. The running joke is that those puppies are as close to grandkids as my parents are going to get any time soon!

Kenzie and Keeta were already named. We were told that both already knew their names well. Keeta did but we actually wound up teaching Kenzie her name. She does ignore the "Mc" part so I do believe in the 2 syllable thing now. I do like how their names mesh well but I get tongue tied sometimes!

While growing up, we had a Chowwy (we very young kids named him after finding out he was a chow chow).
Baloo got his name because the night we got him, we were trying to come up with a name when I put the Jungle Book in the VCR.

Tyton got his name because I wanted a name that brought to mind the image of a noble worrior in all his power and glory. =D= the stronge and protective type. He lives up to his name.

Carter got his name because we had our English Setter, Cash first. I liked the idea of pair names, and so after much deliberation, we settled on Carter. (Johnny Cash and June Carter). His middle name, Simba, was in memory of Frisco Simba.

Frisco was named when we got him, after a soap opera character. He already knew his name and my dad said we couldn't change it. We wanted to change it to Simba (The Lion King was big during that time), but since we couldn't, we chose it for his middle name.

My new girl, Allie, came with her name, although I changed the spelling based on The Notebook's Allie. Her middle name is Rose. It just sounded pretty and she's red (rose), plus my screen names are all "summer rose".

After meeting my first Chow in Germany, I was hooked and when I came home, I began my search! I was so excited to finally have one of my own that I never even considered what to name him! So….my first Chow buddy became C.C.! C.C. = ciao, ciao because he was the first one I saw when my day started (Hello!) and the last one when my day ended (Goodnight)!
Thumper was the next member of my family, appropriately named because of her kind nature and like a rabbit; her back leg would thump up and down whenever her back was scratched! She and C.C. were the very best of friends!

Next came Brandy….I met her at a dog show when she was just eight weeks old. The breeder opened her crate, she walked straight into my arms and I was smitten! Her coat was a beautiful light red with golden highlights – hence her name became Brandy! She was the most gentle, loving girl and never, ever complained, even when my nephew thought she was his pillow and curled up on her tummy to take a nap!

Sidney was the quiet one; she just quietly hung back from her puppy mates and waited to be picked. She knew that the best is always saved for last and proved it to us time and again! Sidney was named for her home town – not too creative but I like the way is sounds.

And then Tucker came along! What can I say…… He immediately knew he was the king of the family but never realized he walked on four legs! He lived up to his name from the moment he chose me – smart, intuitive, enthusiastic, and daring - nothing ever ruffled his feathers! He was very selective of those he chose to love and very protective of his family. He would allow a stranger into his home and then sit, very quietly, right at their feet to let them know his welcome was only temporary!
