Iam crying my eyes out.. it reminded me of my mothers passing .. she had a newfie (her drs dog)in bed with her at the nursing home and she passed that night after the dr. brought his dog in.. there was something that the dog could bring out of my mom that no one else could. She came around and rallied for a short time with the dog licking her face and her petting him.. she loved animals..so the dr. decided to bring in his dog.. it was also a therapy dog. It was wonderful to see her smile and enjoy something so simple and sweet..
Wonderful video..

I cried like all of you and i looked over to my two happy healthy babies and cried even more, i cant take seeing them when they are so old and even though baxter wasnt in any pain we could recognise my heart aches for him as i would not want to put my babies through that suffering when they reach their old age, its cruelty in my eyes and even though baxter helps people, i wonder if the people are helping him? i think not

Honestly, I looked at the video & thought that Baxter deserves to be allowed to stay home these days. He's old, unable to move himself so really has no choice in what happens. I vote he's helped enough people & deserves to retire. His owners make a fair income from his books etc. Maybe it's time they got another dog to carry on his legacy... Excessive licking can be a sigh of anxiety in dog.

The sweetest and saddest thing I have ever seen  I agree with Layla, maybe time to give Baxter a rest for all of his good work

I found this really upsetting to watch. I feel as if the owner is getting something out of having a dog that has to do good work whether he wants to or not. At this stage (and any other stage) of life Barney is dependant on her and she owes it to him to put his needs before any others. If she feels so much for the old and infirm why does she not translate those needs to Barney. I really do not think that this work is meeting HIS needs. It makes me kind of sad but also a bit angry to see this. :(

While I also think he does great work with hospice, I was upset by the look in his eyes, he's old and tired and I think it's time for him to be left to himself and to let him go. I read an excerp from the book, the owner wants him to live to be 20, which will be Mar. 2010. I was upset that she charms, commands, treats and otherwise bribes him into walking a mile a day...he's told her in everyway possible I think that he wants to leave. They will give their hearts to do what you want to please you to their very last breath and I feel the owner is taking advantage of that. I hope he has peace and goes to the bridge without pain. This really upset me.

Aww...had tears rolling down my face.
What a beautiful, gift from to the world Baxter was.
To me, all animals, of course especially dogs, are just gifts to the world.
