We lost Missy to bloat today

I came home from work and she was breathing but unresponsive. We've had another chow 14 years ago that survived bloat, so I immediately suspected it when I saw her stomach. I rushed her to the vet and they diagnosed bloat and were able to release the gas from her stomach with a tube. They were prepping her for surgery and went to take blood, and she took a deep breath and died in my arms while I was holding her head up for the blood draw. They started CPR but we were not able to revive her.
My little Missy-Moo had a really tough life. She spent the last few years before she came to me locked in a basement, never seeing sunlight. She was only with us for a little over a year, but I know she was happy and we tried to make up for all the bad things she had endured. She was always a big happy love, just wanting to plop down next to you and lean on you until you petted her. She never had a mean bone in her entire body-I don't know how anyone could not love her. We will miss her. Goodbye sweet girl...run, play and be free.

Iam so sorry for your loss. So many have lost their pets to bloat.., Iam sure she enjoyed the time she spent with you.. even if it wasn't as long as you had hoped it to be.

I am so sad for you and your family ....... I take the loss of anyone's Chow very much to my own heart and grief. I lost a (human) child of mine at 6 years of age; and that was 40 years ago. I have transfered all the love I had left to give to every Chow I ever had; every Chow I ever lost, and into empathy for my fellow Chow Chow lovers and those of us who have had to see them go. She was so fortunate to enjoy your love and care for a while.
