OMG! That is so awful, that poor baby. How could anyone let him get into that condition? And someone had to have him for him to have his nails that long, if he'd been on his own he'd have walked them off on the road and stuff. And his poor little face. I hope they can figure out what is wrong and fix it. It might be a severe case of fly strike or flea infestation, which he could get over with some care and good food. I do hope they find out who allowed this to happen, and prosecute them. Hopefully they don't have more animals they are neglecting that is my fear.

That is just terrible ! I feel so sorry for Phoenix I hope they can save him and he will finally be adopted by someone that will truly love him and take good care of him. I can only imagine how much pain he is enduring and has been. This is just sick, I hope they find the person that let this happen to him.

I am appalled by the news. If the owner no longer wanted the dog or could not afford the food/medical expenses, then why did s/he not turn the dog into the Humane Society or SPCA? They would not be turned away.

I hope Phoenix recovers and his owner is apprehended soon.

I hope the monster who did that do him is caught. Phoenix should've NEVER had to end up like that... I read/hear stories like this and I just wanna beat some sence into the monsters that do that to them...

I even contacted Best Friends Animal Society (better known for the Dogtown series on National Geographic Channel) to see what help they could offer. I've forwarded their response to the humane society so hopefully Phoenix will get all the medical attention and help he deserves.

So sad, so mad. I had tears in my eyes watching the video and felt dizzy afterwards.... How can anyone do this to anyone/anything?

Yeah, Nat cried when she saw this on the local news. It takes a special kind of human to do this, even animals don't do this kind of crap to each other or other species. I think laws globally have to change, this person might actually procreate or worse already have children and for them I would worry.

I just got word back from the Humane Society that Phoenix tested positive for very advanced cancer on his tongue. Things don't look good for him. He's being referred to a top specialist in Canada.

This update was posted yesterday...I so hope that they will be able to help him and that he will be placed into a loving home for the rest of his life, I know with the cancer in mind he may not have long to live, but if he can get the love and attention he so deserves in the the time he has left, that would mean the world to Phoenix after what he had to endure.

Phoenix has started to show some signs of feeling a bit better. He is eating well and going outside for regular bowel movements. He even barked for the first time today. We finally got confirmation of his specialist appointment today and he will be going next Monday to have the cancer on his tongue checked out. Unfortunately that was the earliest appointment we could get. We will know more about what if anything can be done to treat the cancer after that appointment. In the meantime we are continuing to treat the other issues he has by building up his immune system and trying to clear up his infections.

Phoenix looks a lot better now. They uploaded some new pictures of him and he looks better. Still a long road to recovery though...

Phoenix - Chow Updates

September 9, 2009

Today Phoenix was feeling well enough to go into his foster home.
The foster parents met Ruby and Debby at the vet clinic at 10 am.
They spoke at length with the clinic staff about his needs and were given instructions about his
medications and food. They were also told that as of this past weekend he was feeling good enough to
start humping people.

We received our first update this afternoon and were informed that he had marked every blade
of grass in the yard before proceding to have a nap on the bed with one of the foster parents.
He is fitting in very well and they love him to pieces.

His next veterinary checkup is next Thursday.

I just received a message on facebook saying that Phoenix passed away. Does anyone know if this is true?

I regret to inform every one that Phoenix passed away on Friday - at least he got to enjoy some quality of life.
