OCD Chow, thankfully
Yesterday my husband took out the garbage. It was dark (as it was early morning) so when he came back in the gate and locked it, he locked the latch in the open postion instead of closed. So when I went home at lunch I opened the back door the release the Butters beast. HE stopped on the back porch and began barking. I went to see what he was barking at and the back gate was standing wide open . So I went out calmly, and told him to stay away, he kept barking and started to escort me the the back gate. The wind blew and it startled him when the gate moved on it's own so he took off the other direction . I was able to shut the gate and keep the beast contained. Thankfully he has OCD and the Chicken Chow disease or he would have been gone!!!

LOL! Aren't they weird....you know if you hadn't been there and the gate would've been open he would have been less afraid and gone through it...then stood outside it to show you how "brave" he was, taking on the dreaded "gate monster". Firesong had the same reaction last night to a sign someone had left by one of the trashcans in HER park.

That is so funny. Butters reminds me so much of Gracie. She to suffers from the chicken chow disease. I let her out the other night to potty. I heard her "let me in NOW" demanding bark but it was coming from the yard instead of at the back door. I thought that is odd, she always stands at the door with her demanding, impatient barking to come inside. I went out to get her, no Gracie. So I got a flashlight to find where she was. WELL, I had been raking the yard, propped it up against a trash can and forgot to take care of it. The wind must have knocked it down (or she did) and it was now laying on the ground between her and the house. In order for her to get to the back door, she would need to step over it or go around it. BUT, according to Gracie, she was trapped out in the middle of the yard now unable to reach the safety of the house. She's a brave one.

Oh boy, Butters and Gracie sound like little characters. I love how our chows actually have distinct personality traits. They must have been astounded to realize the gate was left open/mom left the rake where it didn't belong!

Thanks so much Sweetpea, you're a star!

I'm so glad to hear my dog isn't alone! He is a chicken chow too! I was hoping to get him past that, but maybe that's not possible? He also gets upset when things change. I always laugh about it, and remind my husband, that Buddha says 'Change is Bad'. He hates it when we bring a new piece of furniture, rug anything in the house, he avoids it like the plague. We tried to move his crate one time, he was traumatized for days... needless to say we moved it back to where he wanted it the same night! Do you think this 'OCD' is what makes them such great watch/gaurd dogs?

I know they are crazy. It is funny to me that they can be so fierce and so scared all wrapped up in one beautiful package!!!
