Re: please help me with this flea problem..
We had been using Frontline or Advantage and then it stopped working and had fleas everywhere. I talked to my vet and they recommended either Comfortis or Triflexis. The Triflexis is the same as the Comfortis but it has the heart worm medicine in it and it cost the same so we went with the Triflexis...

I have been fostering Mr. Manny Manfred for about a month or so. I can describe him with probably 100 different words and aggressive sure wouldn't be one of them. Sometimes I have to wonder about the shelters. Manfred meets new people everyday and does just fine. He met some young children last week...

Re: I HATE THEM! What will you do if you're in my position?
I have read through both posts on this and all the responses. It seems to me that Mochi is very mouthy and the discipline methods so far have not worked or unfortunately made it worse. Add to this the stress of your family giving up on him it is no wonder he is struggling to behave. You may want to ...

Re: my chow's coat!...
I had to get an elderly severely matted chow shaved before. He was shaved all the way to he skin.I was surprised at how quickly it grew back. Within 2 weeks he had fur all over and within 2 months it was fuller than ever. While most wouldn't recommend shaving a chow, I think it will be ok. Just don'...

Re: life changing relocation - 14 year old chow chow
I voted to take her with you but after hearing about her health issues I am concerned about the flight. All of the issues you mentioned you would have in DC would be inconveniences to you but I don't feel that is a reason to put her down (although I do sympathize). I really think at this point, it w...

Re: PLEASE HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT 2 do r chow agressive to r
Of course any dog can kill a cat in certain circumstances. It is up to you to see the situations and avoid them. Most cats teach dogs to stay away using their claws. Are claws going to stop a determined dog, no, but a few pokes to an overly curious dog does teach the dog when they have over stepped ...

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear this. He had a very short but very nice life with you. It sounds like he enjoyed every minute and was lucky that you did all you did for him. I don't understand why vets are always so quick to recommend putting them down. I am glad you didn't listen to them. Now it is Pr...

Re: A CHOW RESCUE MAY BE FACING FELONY ANIMAL CRUELTY
Thank you for the clarification. It sucks that originally everyone had the same intention, saving chows, but the ideas of how to do it and the thought processes were all different. It sounds like it spiraled out of control. In the end, it is Lauren and Tim who are legally responsible so I can defini...

Re: Cars and Chows
While riding in any vehicle, he should be wearing a harness attached to a seatbelt or be in a crate. They have specific seatbelt leashes or you can loop a regular leash through the plugged in seatbelt. And this will also keep him restrained to whatever part of the vehicle you want him in.

Re: Double crate
I would get 2 crates. You can put them next to each other when you want and you can also separate them when you don't want them together. My Chows didn't use their crates for too long. They prefer to be tethered to something when they need to be restrained versus crated. I do use them for my Pekinge...

Re: Problems with walking :(
I have a sled dog as well with Boogie. I have used the gentle leader with the halti on his face which worked well until he decided he had enough of it and threw himself on the ground and scraped his face until he got it off. So I switched to a no pull harness. I also use a regular collar with a leas...

It sounds like he is in pain. Is he on pain meds and meds for his failing legs? I had a senior foster whose back end was failing like that and he too was easily agitated and would snap at me and scare me. I thought it was going to be the end for him but we took him to the vet for a last ditch effort...
