Re: Onyx is treat agressive.
We've had a hot, dry summer last year. So far it's been on the cool side, only needed the A/C for two days. Mikki is still sporting her winter coat. My chow is so accustomed to the cool days, she huffs and puffs when it gets into the 70's. During the first real hot week, her coat will drop all at on...

Re: Teisha - Cancer
Think positive, it can make a huge difference. My first chow Luna was dix'd with a large tumour inside her anus. I noticed a swelling while grooming her. Surgery was scheduled one day after my father had unexpectedly died. I begged my vet to do his utmost as I couldn't have taken another death in th...

Re: Spay and neuter....
A neighbour rescued a doberman mix, spayed, according to the rescue vet. My neighbour was surprised when the dog had 12 puppies a few weeks later. Homes were found for the pups. The dobies owners didn't want their dog spayed. They called 100'ds of vets till they came across one that would to a tubal...

Re: Does your Chow sleep on the bed with you?
My chow doesn't like beds, couches, or any furniture. She won't sleep on the bed I purchased, it's now the cats' bed. When I do get Mikki on the bed, she starts huffing and puffing, drooling, you'd think I had a sick dog. I let her jump off the bed after a while, don't want to cause her to have a he...

Re: REINCARNATION
I don't know about reincarnation..........I lost my chow Luna, 12?? in 2006. She was a blondish red, her coat colour changed with the season. When the vet came to the house for the dreaded final needle, my adult son and I cried buckets. After Luna was carried to the vet's van, I asked the vet if she...

That one sounds good I'm sure Conner won't mind a trip to Toy's R us. I don't know what's worse, Pekoe and Onyx fighting or taking Conner to Toy's R us.. I think I finely found something Pekoe Likes, Now that I'm in my elderly sick years I decided to learn Harmonica so when ever I play she watches ...

Re: Onyx is treat agressive.
For the first little while after adopting the mutt, I wasn't able to give out treats or have chew bones laying around. Every time Mikki walked past one of the beef bones, the mutt would growl and did attack once. That was a few months ago, now the mutt has cooled off and couldn't care less how many ...

Re: What do you think about this (kind of long)
Because of owners like your new neighbour, we have a ban on pit bulls and dogs that have the appearance of a pit in this province. All pits have to be spayed, neutered. Anybody who doesn't, gets charged. Puppies are taken away and euthanized. All pits in Ontario have to wear a muzzle when outside th...

No need to get a wife, get a dosett.

And for the prednisone, the side effects usually only happen with a maintenance dosage. What you were presecribed is only for a week or a few days?

Re: can chows get ibs????
You might want to give them salmon once every two days rather than every day? Mine eat one cup of kibble in the morning, one in the evening. I freeze little packets of fresh salmon and give it to my chow and the mutt every two days or so. I don't get the tinned stuff, too much sodium. For variety I ...

I would say because of their age, they're only two, they can be rehabilitated. Maybe consult a dog trainer who likes chows and has trained chows. Post as many questions here as you want, many here are experts when it comes to chows.

Depends on the season. When it's ---F/C below freezing, my chow Mikki runs to the back fence of the yard and does her pee, then she runs to the other fence and does #2. The pooch, a male hops around till he finds a tree tall enough to do a little we we. Then he runs in the house. An hour later, I am...

Hello Sharon, I wish I could do more than just write a few words. This too will pass and you'll be up and running and taking your chows for walkies. A few scars, don't worry, they'll heal in time and disappear or will be very faint. I had a hysterectomy and the scar is gone. I wasn't young when I ha...

Re: Jeff's Dream.....
Might be a good idea to keep your distance from Conner if Conner hasn't had the chickenpox. Call your doctor in the morning and find out. Herpes zoster/shingles is a chicken pox virus. When I had shingles, they weren't painful. I went to get the medicine within 72 hours, my friends didn't and were a...

Re: Jeff's Dream.....
Jeff you may have shingles or herpes zoster. A doctor could tell you in seconds. I did what my father did and went to the doctor a.s.a.p. There is a medicine that shortens the progress of shingles. With some people the shingles disappear but the nerve damage that is caused can keep the pain lingerin...

She may have the white coat syndrome and gets a little flustered at a doctor's office. Funny story, reminds me a bit of myself when I was at that age. At 19 the hormones jump up and down, I didn't know much about good nutrition even though I thought I did, looking back, oh boy............

Post in chow chows that need of a home? Specify the location where you'd want Onyx to go to. That will free up space to rescue another chow, maybe you''ll run into a male chow this time in need of a clean-up, nurturing.
