Crossing my fingers it will just pass. Here is a link to LEO's dysplasia saga, the very beginning of it. I did several threads on it back in 06 & 07. Looking at the date of this first thread, Nov 06, LEO had just turned one years old. http://forum.chowchow.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3061&h...

Re: Limping ?
It can be nothing but watch out if he limps after getting up from a lying down position it can be elbow dysplasia, as it was for our Leonora. Just keep a close eye on him.

Oh, Jerry, what sad news. I type w/ tears coming down my cheeks. Benny was a lovely chow gentleman and will be sadly missed by us all. Our deepest condolences. Hugs to you, Lady and Bobbycat.

It won't hurt to take him in for a check up. Have his poo checked, joints checked, etc. I tend to take mine in to the vet for one reason or another every 3~4 months or so. And I haven't seen a doctor in 5yrs, myself..... I know the "help me" look very well. And since they can't talk...

Re: Walt Disney had a chow!
I did a google search before posting the original thread, but couldn't find it. He looked like one of the older chows in sepia coloured photos. Short haired and long-ish muzzle or Shiba-ish looking w/ a tad longer coat and larger size. Seems a red. You can find him at the exhibit when the museum ope...

Walt Disney had a chow!
Did anyone know that Walt Disney had a chow? He got it as a Christmas present for his wife, place it in a hat box for her surprise. She loved it to bits and it never left her sight. \:D/ Went to the preview of the Walt Disney Family Museum around the corner which opens publicly in October. Seems he ...

Re: Dry Lightning
Hi, hi! It turns out that we had some rain at our part as well. Not much, but our first rain of the season, and it is sooooo early. We heard the thunders, horribly loud. LEO is not afraid of noise, touch wood. She is OK with Fleet Week and 4th of July. She didn't even walk around when the horrible n...

Re: New User - Plz Plz Help! I want to keep my Chow!
This is what I learned from Ian Dunbar's "Aggressive Dog" lecture, or the jist of it, anyway. If you want to learn more go to his site on siruspup.com. If you really want to keep your chow, you can do what some of the others have on the site with two dogs. Keep them on leash, have one with...

Re: Need some advice on Chewie and my daughter.
Nice to hear from you Mandy. Sorry to hear about the troubles. I got LEO's weight down from 68lb to 57lb, her ideal weight, by cutting her breakfast out and going for light dinner only. I do still feed her about 1/2 ~ 3/4 cup kibbles on walks as treats to keep her moving or getting attention away fr...

Re: Why did you get a chow?
When I was in high school and when my brother was in junior high, we persuaded(nagged down) our parents to get a dog. We studied the kennel club book on breeds, and looking at the pictures, chows looked too ugly so it was on a definitely no list. We then went to a pet shop in the most classiest area...

Re: Why does my Chow do that?
I haven't got a clue. But, I've seen it happen w/ the two chows I grew up with. A cat walks by the fence and the girl chow would attack the boy chow. She was older by a year and a half. She was smart & sharp, the boy was sweet & well, a bit slow. I've got a younger brother who is sweet and w...

Re: On heat again!!!!
Tho a bit undignified, I used my DH's largest briefs for Leonora when she went on heat. She was 5.5m/s old and was attending puppy class. We just put them on her the other way around so that her tail came out of the fly. They were freebees from a hedge fund managers on which it said "Past Perfo...

Re: Chows rescured from a rescurer
I did appreciate the update on the case by Merlin posting the copy of the letter. What I don't understand is the attitude of some of the posters on this thread. Haven't they got anything better to do rather than to flair up the flame? I suppose not. I'm off to walk LEO now. Hope others find somethin...

Re: Potty Issue ><
If the carpet area is a no-go area usually, Momo might not have associated it w/in his living area, yet. Chows are very clean and very particular they hate to soil their own living space. Make sure the smell is out completely by using products such as Nature's Miracle so the odour left behind would ...
