Re: Shedding (Is this normal)
I tried the Furminator and didn't like it. My go-to grooming tool is a long toothed comb.

Re: Another Food Recall
Dim Sum had a sensitive stomach when he was young, but he handled the switch without blinking an eye.

Re: Another Food Recall
It's rather ironic that just after I wrote that Dim Sum's current food is Costco/Kirtland Lamb and Rice in another thread that it gets recalled. The code on the bag indicates it is one of the affected batches, although he has gone through 3/4 of the bag since I got. Fortunately no problems, and I al...

Re: My soap box about Pitt Bulls
I agree, and I thought about it...but based on what? Things hanging from a tree? That's really all I had. I never saw them tear into each other or anything else. One of those could have passed off as a rope swing...see what I mean? But you said you saw them baiting the dogs to bite into it, yes? Pl...

Re: My soap box about Pitt Bulls
But you don't just accuse people and get involved in things like that in a neighborhood like this. Plus, if I was severly wrong (which I doubted!) those are heavy allegations to accuse someone of. IMO it is better to alert the police, animal control, or whoever, and let them deal with it. You are n...

I recommend you bring him to a vet ASAP. You can never be too careful with a puppy.

Re: blow drying?
I've never heard that you must blow dry a dog to avoid skin irritations and rash. You do need to make sure all shampoo and conditioner is rinsed off for those reasons.
I always groom Dim Sum on a grooming table so he has no choice but to stand or sit there.

Re: Pet Insurance
Dim Sum had pet insurance when he was a puppy, because the risk of is being injured or ill was greater. But now he no longer has it, because the cost to keep it outweighed the risk.

Re: Looking to buy a Chow, Best breeder?
Wow had a look at that site Cam and I don't know about the rest of the world but in England a place like that would be classed as 'puppy farming' which is frowned upon, I guess its about what is acceptable in any given residence. While they have some nice looking dogs, how can they possibly give th...

I knew it.
Wow, every six weeks! I think Dim Sum only gets a bath every six months. LOL. But I do brush him out frequently...I too like to make sure he looks good for his adoring public.
I am not as adept at clipping as you appear to be, though...Dim Sum's fur is a bit more messy and wild.

I don't know anything about service dogs, but I found this site which is pertinent to your needs. The FAQ will probably answer many of your questions: http://www.psychdog.org/

Re: First Chow Chow Pup Questions
I don't think they treated him very well because since I brought him home he's stayed in the corner just watching me suspiciously. If I approach him speaking softly he'll sit up and let me pet him and pick him up. He snapped at me tonight but I think that was my fault because I didn't say anything ...

Re: Shedding (Is this normal)
Nothing to worry about. Your Chow just has shorter fur compared to your neighbor's. Juliette has more of a "classic" (for lack of a better word) build and coat, compared to the current "breed standard," i.e. show dog style of Chow.

Re: Best Dog Foods ?
I have fed Dim Sum those. I like to rotate brands and/or protein sources every few months. Right now (aside from the fresh meat he gets daily) he is eating Costco's Kirtland lamb, rice, and vegetable. When the bag is done, I will switch to California Naturals.david franklin wrote:Food are

So sorry for your loss. I looked at your first post again. I do not know what legal recourse you have, but your parents look into it. You might not be the only one whose puppy was sick; their could be other families who purchased a puppy from the pet shop and had the same experience. The shop and th...

Re: Concern vs. Overreacting
"Sorry I was just gone 10 minutes to pick this. Yes I know, thank you for your concern." would have prevented some more verbal exchange between the two of you. Mind you, there was nothing close to arguing. I was just irritated with her tone. Was she younger? Yeah, probably. I am 50. It's ...

Re: Concern vs. Overreacting
I bet 10 minutes after the incident you had thought of a million better responses than "Uh, yes, I know" LOL I said that because I didn't really know what she meant. My initial thought was about how having the windows open so far that he could kill someone, not that he get killed. It was ...
