Re: Jerky treats
I won't give my Chows any treats made outside our country, never will. I agree, Canada and the US only for me. I also read the packages very carefully because they can be labeled packaged in the USA or Canada and in the fine print on the back still say product of Canada. I am fortunate to have a lo...

Re: Jerky treats
You're welcome Nancy. It has been popping up periodically on the news for quite awhile now but usually just about the chicken jerky. This is the first time I've seen the duck and sweet potato as being a problem. As far as I know our Costco in Canada are still selling the Wagon Train jerky, they are ...

Re: Fur bitting that won't stop
It is possible that it is a seasonal allergy. Cocoa has real issues in the fall every year. The first year we thought it could be the food, I had switched her to a bison based food a few months earlier, so we switched to the Taste of the Wild fish formula and things seemed to get better. It was also...

Re: ANY OTHER DRIBBLERS? YEUK! GRUNGE!
Nikki would actually look like she had rabies she would get almost a foamy slobber when she played with other dogs or was hot Nancy, I swear Nikki and Cocoa have got to be related, Cocoa is exactly the same. When I had Buddy he would drool as his way of begging at the dinner table, he was too digni...

Jerky treats
I know we've all probably seen this before but it is back in the news again:
http://globalnews.ca/news/920995/myster ... s-ill-fda/
I think the best thing for all our chows is just to stay away from any and all jerky treats.

Three!
Cocoa turned three on Saturday, happy birthday sweet girl! \:D/ I don't know where the time goes, it doesn't seem like three years since she was just a little chowling. She had a fun day with a car ride to Pet Smart for a new toy, then in the evening she got some artificial crab with her dinner (her...

Re: ROYAL CANIN FOOD
Personally I am not a fan. Cocoa was on Royal Canin as a pup but after some trial and error with different foods we ended up with her on Taste of The Wild. I prefer the grain free foods and Royal Canin contains wheat and corn and I think most of them have chicken as their main protein which a lot of...

Re: My Little Lilly
I am so glad to hear the Lily is doing so well. I guess sometimes these things just take time. With all of her past experiences (whatever they may have been) and the infamous chow memory, she probably just needed to test you for awhile and has now decided you have passed with flying colors. =D= =D= ...

Oh, the chow tree root sit, I know that one well. I think they must all do it (mine all have anyway) and not always in the most convenient place. Maybe Whitby wasn't quite finished with that side of the street yet. :D Cocoa will do that when she decides that we should be going back the way we came f...

What a great picture. I don't do Facebook either (Nancy, I think we're part of a very small minority) but I will ask my kids to vote.

Re: Smooth Operator
Nancy, your rain dance must have worked, it started raining last night! We had a nice walk in the rain, which Cocoa didn't even seem to mind, at least until she was soaked to the skin, followed by a lovely zoomie around the house to dry off. I don't see the zoomies very often in the summer when it i...

Cocoa does that all the time with her Shih Tzu/Bichon cross friend.Ro barreling into his corgi friend and then just flopping over...the corgi is under there, somewhere.

Thanks Nancy, I appreciate it even if Cocoa won't. I'm laughing about you both with the pool experiences, Cocoa won't step in a puddle so a pool is out of the question. I tried to get her to walk through a sprinkler the other day and she acted like I was trying to torture her.

Re: Chow Coat
Truffles is adorable. Don't worry about the coat, at six months old he would still have his puppy wool so a pin brush and maybe a slicker brush should be fine. Once his adult coat comes you will start to see the seasonal blowouts like applebear said. When Cocoa is blowing her coat I use the rake and...

Re: Lilly's prey drive
Well Lilly, Cocoa is jealous (not me though). We're in the city so no off leash walks for us or I'm sure I would have to deal with dead squirrels too. Cocoa has a high prey drive as well and I notice that while other dogs in the neighborhood just bolt at them she stalks them. If we see a squirrel on...

I really wish the vets weren't all so fond of prednisone. Don't just stop the medication with Koda, it can be harmful if it isn't stopped gradually. Talk to your vet about accelerating the tapering process. Cocoa's allergies were really bad last fall so the vet put her on prednisone for it, I didn't...

Nancy, can you send some of that rain my way? We are getting into the heart of Cocoa's allergy season and a little rain might help with the itches.
