Re: Puppy scared of strangers, nipping

One of the best things you can do is take this dog to puppy class. It will more than help you socialize your chow, and give you loads of good tools for your training toolbox. She's at a perfect age, and it will absolutely help you situation. Is it realistic to expect her to accept people slowly appr...

Re: Blood in stool

I'd worry more about Parvo if your chow was just a young puppy , say 6-10 weeks old. At one year old, it's not likely that your dog has Parvo. It's not impossible, but it's really no likely. Are there any other symptoms? Because dogs discover their world through their mouths, if it's fresh red blood...

So once again, you are right and everyone else is wrong
No. Fair use applies to people who OWN or TOOK the picture, not to people who steal pictures or use copyrighted pictures without the owner's permission.
Not the same thing.

BTW, under the "fair use" clause in the US copyright doctrine, you posting the photo on this site was acceptable and would not have violated any laws and not have burdened you or put this site in any legal trouble The Fair Use policy in the US applies to images that people own, or images ...

DO NOT post photos on public groups if you do not wish them to fall into the public domain this is a just a note from someone who works in marketing. What you are saying is absolutely not true. Public domain does not give you or anyone else the right to reproduce images somewhere else,in any fashio...

Re: when to stop feeding puppy food?

anytime after 6 momths.
Puppy food in general has hormones in it and is geared to make the dog grow faster, which is not a good thing.

Just stick with a quality food and your puppy will be very fine.

Re: My dog lost her eye sight last night!

Most of the times, ( 9 times out of 10), overnight blindness is caused by diabetes. You need to get your dog to a vet, because untreated diabetes can be dangerous and diagnosis can be done with a blood test or urine test. It could be glaucoma or some other acute reaction to a present illness. As for...

Re: Chow Health

Mamis loss of appetite etc and excess drinking was a symptom of the PYRO. In all sincerity I hope your chow is ok, but there is something that doesn't sound quite right here. The above symptoms are very synonymous with thyroid issues or other endocrinogical diseases, or diabetes, and have little to...

Re: Anybody feel raw diet in here?

The only concern I have towards raw is parasites and the If you're concerned, freeze your meat for 10 days before serving it to your dog. It's that simple. Don't ever hesitate to feed human food, it is far superior to any man-made type of animal food and human food from your table isn't made from w...

If there is truly a reason to spay a female, it's because of possible Pymotera! Thank goodness you were able to save her. Just an xray or ultra sound of a swollen adrenal gland is not enough to signify Cushings disease. The peeing in the house could have been from the Pyrometra, or from a simple kid...

Our eight month old boy looks almost like his hind legs have knock knees. The knees dont actually knock but from the knee down the splay a little outwards. 3 seconds before darting out of the doorway like a bat out of hell. Rule #1 of training any animal ( and please always remember this), is ALWAYS set yourself up to win. NEVER , not ever give ANY command to a dog, unless you are in a position to correct it, or reinforce it. Koda runs out of the door...

I honestly couldn't tell you if our neighbour gestured to pet him as we approached, but Im sure he did . It just all happened so fast. ahhhhhhhhhhh, well see? This says it plenty! It is this uncertainty that you'll need to get a clear handle on, because like I said, it's extremely rare that any dog...

My neighbour did not touch Leroy, he didnt even attempt to pet Leroy before he was bit. Did you notice if your neighbour stepped or leaned forward, anything subtle like that? Is it remotely possible that it was a 'play bite"? Was a vicious gesture? or was her possible trying to engage him in p...

I'm sorry Sarah, I really don't get the point you're trying to make with all of this, but truly, I don't think it's of any benefit to anyone to spend any additional bandwidth on it either.

I made it work, and now you want to take it back?
??? Your analogy doesn't work Sarah. A dog is not going to, "suck it up", simply because you want it to. In an ideal world, maybe.
But you can interpret this however you want. I don't think this is a realistic expectation.

Re: Bad Bad Leroy Brown.

Just because there was a "reason" for the bite does not mean it was a "good reason". This is the type of behavior that gets a dog labeled "vicious" and possibly put to sleep via a judge's order. For the dog's sake, not to mention everyone else he might bite, it cannot ...

Any event, the second we reach up to him, Leroy bites him I'm just looking for a clarification, because it does make a difference. Does the above comment mean that Leroy took the initiative to bite the owner who was just standing there? or does the comment mean the neighbour reached to touch Leroy?...

What if I had never taught him how to deal with strangers? What I'm saying is that the tolerance was already there. Maybe not developed when you got him, but already there. Not all dogs are capable of the same levels of tolerance, and more importantly, While you can generally condition a dog to tol...

Re: Bad Bad Leroy Brown.

let the dog decide whether it wants to be touched or not. I totally understand what you are saying, but at some point the owner has to respect this breed of dog, from the perspective that if the chow only "tolerates it", and many chows only reach that level, that's why at random occasions...
