Re: Best Puppy Food?
There are a lot of good dog foods. Some dogs might do well on one that another dog doesn't. I always feed a grain free food but that is just what I like. The most important thing is to get a good dog food. I'm sending you a link with great information on dog foods. I'm sure you can find a good one a...

Re: EMERGENCY
I would keep him where you can keep a close eye on him. If you have not had a complete blood panel done on him in the last year I would have that done when you see the vet. Your vet will probably suggest it. I always have a complete blood panel done on my seniors when they have their yearly checkup....

Re: EMERGENCY
Tiger could have a urinary infection or possibly stones. He needs to be seen by the vet as soon as possible. Try to catch a fresh urine sample just before you leave for the vet. Watch as he urinates also and see if he has a strong stream. If he is not on filtered water start giving him only filtered...

I agree with Cindy, please don't send your puppy away to be trained. Find a trainer in your area that does "positive reinforcement training". Here is a link to a website that has some great information on training. http://www.peaceablepaws.com/pat-miller.php

Re: Help! My chow Simba stopped eating?
Many times feeding a cheaper dog food doesn't save money. You usually have to feed more plus you have more vet bills. If there is no way you can feed his old food, try to find one with ingredients that are similar that you can afford. Anytime you change diet you should always do it slowly.

Re: Help! My chow Simba stopped eating?
Is there some reason you changed dog foods? If your dog is not eating for weeks you have him checked out by your vet. If you are looking for a good dog food check out this website http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/brand/ They have great information on lots of different kinds of dog food...

Re: What Type of Coat does my CHow Have is it Smooth or Roug
You have a very cute puppy! I think your puppy is a rough coat. If you can send a picture showing a side shot I could tell for sure. A smooth has no feathering on the legs or britches.

Did you read the ingredients in this food? The first three are Whole Grain Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal, Pork Fat. This is a link to a good website that has information on dog food http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/brand/ . I think you will find it helpful.

Re: WHEN TO PUT DOWN
When my dogs get old my first concern is their quality of life. I will never let any of mine suffer. If I can give them some quality time with medication you can bet I will. I have no doubt that you love your dog. That's why you will know when the time comes to make a decision. Hope you have lots of...

Re: soon to be a chow chow owner!
Hi Alice, You are definitely going to have to go home at lunch. You still are probably going to have accidents since 8 weeks is very young. I don't think there is any breed cleaner than a Chow so your baby will be easy to housetrain. He will soon get used to going to your boyfriends house. It is imp...

Re: Heartworm prevention
I don't the believe any of these products are good for our dogs. You have to weigh the advantages to using them. If you are in an area that the risk of heartworm is high, then its probably better to give it. Why give the worm and flea medicine with the heartworm if you don't have worms or fleas? I d...

What a pretty boy Shadow is! Rorys dad has given you some great idea's. If you can find a good positive trainer that would really help too. A lot of area's have training clubs that give classes. Check with area vets or even your local humane society, they may have information. This website has great...

Re: allergy test reults
I have had short periods of time that my dogs had allergy problems, but this year it has been constant with 2 of my girls. They are 6 years old now and never had problems like this. Since I have not changed anything it has to be something outside. They have been taking Benedryl every day for months ...

Re: Handler Classes
Your puppy is looking great, he seems to be doing great in his handling class. When I was showing I found it helpful to watch my judge as she was doing some of her other breeds before I showed. It gave me an idea of how she was with the dogs and the ring patterns she used. You still have to really l...

Re: Please help! Skin problem
The first thing I would do is have a biopsy done. Sometimes what looks like a hotspot can be something else. If you have changed food to see if it would help remember it may take a few months before you will see the results. Have you looked at the ingredients in your shampoo to make sure there is no...

Re: Genius puppy
Nala's home is very pretty but you might be better off with a wire crate. I would suggest getting a size that will fit her when she is full grown just in case you would have to crate her for some reason. Most chows can use a 24 x 36 crate. You can get some that fold down like a suitcase so when you ...

Re: New Chow Owner - a few questions. Advice much appreciate
Everyone has their favorite type of grooming equipment. I thing everyone should have some type of pin brush, slicker, and comb as well as nail clippers. You will alwo need a small pair of scissors to trim the hair from the pads of the feet. Always remember to put your grooming equipment up so puppy ...

<<Where would you recommend I take him for obedience or training classes?>> You may be able to find an obedience club in your area. Re: Our Chow bit my wife
I think the responses you have gotten are great. The only thing I would add is any dog you have will have to be supervised around new children. I read you have done some training and I would suggest you continue. Training builds a strong relationship as well giving the dog confidence.
