Re: Totally off subject of chows

According to the center for disease control this is more likely to happen in the southern states since the ameboea trives in warm water. But evidently the clorine, etc is not enough to protect against it. In my opinion better safe than sorry... "Tap water is safe for drinking, but not for irrig...

Re: Totally off subject of chows

:!: HUGE warning about the salt water :!: ONLY use distilled water or water that has come to a rolling boil for atleast 3 minutes. There is an ameoba (prob spelled wrong) in most water that cannot be filtered out which is harmless to drink but once it gets in the nasal tissues it will kill you. THIS...

Re: Sophie has passed away, worried about choosing a replace

OMG they are all soooo cute! but personally I like the 2nd pic, the first one - diva - but I luv to fat babies! My Chumley was the biggest fluffiest of the litter. Belle is the one with 'little dog' syndrome, lol. But back to the color thing... no matter what color you get she will do thinks that re...

Re: Vacuum Cleaner suggestions

I currently have the dyson dc23 animal motorhead. Its the canister that has a motor to turn on the brush bar (the turbine uses air?). I have hardwood floors/linoleum & a few floor rugs. It does a good job (I do have to empty it alot) but I waited until I found it on sale half price. I tried the ...

Re: We want an other chow... but is it the right time?

Back to the real question: Definately agree with everyone on waiting on the second chow. But here are some hints that helped some friends who had a baby & dog sucessfully. Throughout the pregnancy mom made sure to use the shampoo, lotions, etc. that she would be using on the baby. Also they boug...

Jumping into the fire again

Well, as you all know I decided to do something meaningful with my spare time & share/crosspost chow chows in shelters that need homes. It seems that I have jumped into the fire so to speak...Bear looks so much like my Leo & his son Jr. (both have passed away) that I couldn't just network &a...

Re: Not feeling well ??? how to tell

All my chows have preferred to sleep on the hardwood floor (on top of the vent in the summer). Only after they got older & arthritis set in did they sleep on beds. Belle starts out on a rug beside my bed then moves to the hardwood or linoleum sometime in the night. But Chumley, who has a denser ...

Re: What does it cost to keep a pet?

I a sort of do a self insurance also. My paychecks are direct deposited so I have $20 from every check go directly to a savings account. Since it comes out first I dont miss it. It is used for emergencies only so if I dont use it one year then it keeps building. Came in handy when Lady had to have s...

Re: Beautiful video of chows adopted in 2011

chowpups you are doing the right thing by waiting. Besides there are other ways to help...sharing information by cross-posting, fostering, donating money to help those fostering or even just going to the local shelter to give the poor babies some human interaction.

Funny you should mention that Bramble not kissing Emily, her vet. Belle reacted the same way. Dr. Phillip said that while Belle was in recovery cage that everytime he would walk in the room Belle would bark at him and made sure he knew she was watchin him. lol

Beautiful video of chows adopted in 2011

Borrowed this from facebook but thought it a fitting way to end the year - all these babies got new homes because people networked, cross posted, fostered, or donated money to the cause instead of doing nothing. Lets make sure next years video is twice as long :D Video courtesy of Chow Chow Rescue o...

Re: Won't come back in from walks...

Our back yard is fenced in so I just let them out & in whenever they want. Chumley loves it outside. It doesnt matter if its sun, rain ,or snow. But Belle doesnt & is wanting back in shortley after going out. Its a bad habit I know but if I really need to get Chumley in (like if I am going t...

Re: Food talk & suggestions

I too have primarily used Purina foods. For years I used Purina One since this was the best that I could afford. Then they came out with Purina Selects which have no glutens (fillers) and no artifical colors. But Kingalls has the right idea...do some research....go to your local petsmart, etc. and s...

Re: My Slush Puppy's Op

Stuggled? thats a definate 'Yes'. Not only did Belvedere have mange, he had ear mites which caused my husband to have an allergic reaction. So we had to do the dipping but also had to wash anything he had possibly came in contact with in the house...UGH! But the dips did work for us. One important p...

Re: My Slush Puppy's Op

As to the food: Do research at your pet store or grocery store...dont look at the brand, look at the ingredients. The research I did said that food made without glutens are better for dogs with allergies since glutens are just fillers. I was amazed at the number of dog foods with glutens and even mo...

Re: food question?

Tipsys Mom: check with your vet for 'Prescription EN' it is specifically made for dogs with stomache problems. Our vet recommended it for Lady after her surgury to un-flip her stomache. It is really expensive and inconvienient (the only place that sells it is the vet) but was way worth it.

I'm a little late chimeing in but even a purebred chow can have pink gums and underside of toungue pink. Chumley is a purebred cream with pedigree & dna testing going back 3 generations and his gums and under toungue are pink. And as Victory said with age the color faded from all my chows (and w...

I use a three flavors of the same food to keep Belle & Chumley interested. I have always had good luck with Purina but I use the Select brand which does not have any corn or soy glutens & no artifical colors. The only time I have problems with hot spots is when I let the grass in the yard ge...
