Re: Suggestions for good chewy treats

Well, darn, I knew it was too good to be healthy. Ix-nay on the ongue-tay though, I don't think I can deal with being taunted by a lapping huge cow tongue.

Re: Constipation

I'd try a little cooked sweet potato first... they like it, and it makes the trains run on time. Easier on the digestive system.

I just love spring, something new and blooming every day. Your kids are just gorgeous...very lucky they are to have such a beautiful place to live. Those clematis are spectacular, I like how Shiloh is wearing that one like a cocktail hat, very becoming. :D

That's so sweet, Lily-belle hanging out with the horses like a big girl. It always surprises me how gentle the horses at the park are with Sophie.

Call your local shelter and see if there is a lactating mama dog that you can foster if that's an option at all. 3 weeks is very young. :(

Re: Suggestions for good chewy treats

Cats, squirrels, rabbits and possums are Chewy treats. Organic also. OK, put it like this, I've never seen her enjoy food so much that didn't involve me crying hysterically, scooping the remains in a shoebox, and making a midnite run to the dumpster. Not to mention the side trip to the vet for dewo...

Re: Suggestions for good chewy treats

I'm bumping this to share our latest food find... ox tails. :-8 Normally, people use these things to make stews or stock. I bought some for Sophie and her friends Jack and Romey, four claps all 'round. I normally can't get Sophie interested in raw items, her vet wanted her to go raw, but she just li...

http://www.huckfinnpetsupplies.com/catalog/Slings_and_Harnesses-11-1.html One of our dog walking friends is dealing with an elderly GSD who is losing mobility in his back legs... she was walking him with a towel slung under his hips today, and I was thinking this would make both their lives a lot ea...

Re: My mom was bit by a dog today

Hi, Xueshuxin! If your mom has already had a rabies vaccine but you're still concerned, you can get a titer blood test to see if she needs a booster. A titer of 1.5 is considered acceptable. We don't mess around with that sort of thing here, if there is any possibility of exposure, she should see a ...

Re: Cal Natural or Acana

Actually, I feed a different brand of fish/potato kibble and add in a portion of fresh meat myself. Sometimes we get Innova canned rabbit or venison for the extra protein... good food, but spendy. She rarely eats more than half a can at a time, though. It's true, I don't think there is one perfect f...

Re: Cal Natural or Acana

Don't know about Acana, but Cal Nat is a good food, made by the makers of Innova. They get points for never having any of their foods recalled, and their line is considered one of the higher quality brands. Don't worry about the amount, higher quality means less filler, so it takes less to meet thei...

Re: Behavior at dog park

Well, chows are smart, you have to show them that you know best. My trick was to go directly to the pet store after being at the park a couple of times (Sophie's other favorite fun place to go). Pretty soon she figured out that it was in her best interest to get in the car, sometimes the gamble pays...

Re: Chow girl in need of a new home in South Africa.

Carolyn, she would be truly lucky to have you as a new mom. I'm sure it would not be easy, but if anyone could rehab her, it would be you. Like you say, love and care... you have plenty. Sophie adjusted well to having a limited territory after running free in the wild, it wasn't such a hardship for ...
