Re: normal sized chow??
It's so weird that you don't remember that it was this forum that told you she was probably a Chow-Shiba-Mix. So credit where credit is due, please! I must say, seeing her now I stand by my original opinion.

Re: Tess & Me
You have got to give it a little time! I feel a little stupid for saying this, but you DO know that this new dog is going to be all her own person? I just don't want you to feel disappointed when she does turn out to not be exactly like Tess, especially if you choose based on looks. Her character mi...

Her being part Samoyed is a very good guess. I googled Samoyed puppies and they do resemble your pup. I think the tongue is going to stay the way it is now.

Re: What do you guys think of this?
Teaching him to 'go' in his home is counter-productive. Particularly with Chows, who are well known as clean dogs. They will not soil there homes for the most part, so encouraging that sort of training goes against their instincts. This, exactly! =D= Why train him to go in the house if you plan on ...

as he's not really used to eating dried food Sounds like a hunger strike to get his old food back. Yes, Chows do that. I agree, it's scary as hell! I am about to give up on him. Now that is just crazy talk! :) Have you tried feeding him canned food? Lamb and rice wet food is how I ended my Looster'...

Re: Humphers Attacked
So sorry this happened to you and Humphrey! That Chow fur is such a blessing. Loo was bitten a while ago, too, and there wasn't a scratch on him. I wouldn't let this go if I were you! You can still report the incident to the police, even if you don't know the guy's name. And the next time you see hi...

But you know that he is not a purebred Chow, right? One of his akc registered parents must have been a Golden Retriever!

Re: Getting a Second Dog
Somebody told me that this "rejuvenation" is actually just the old dog trying to keep up and not get left behind. :-( Sounded very logical to me. If I were you, I would wait till one faraway day Sempai is no more. But then again I don't live anywhere where they have kill shelters. :-( From...

Re: new member with newly adopted chow
Congrats! She looks like she's been with you for ages, all comfy on the bed and everything. You can tell that the old man was good to her and she has no trauma whatsoever. It's now four-and-a-half years ago that I adopted an adult Chow with entropion myself. The operation wasn't a priority for us th...

I feel a strong urge to agree with the others and to ask you to get her out of there, UNLESS they finally give you some answers as to what they have been doing with her and what progress they have made. When you go to the vet's today, please insist on seeing her!!! Don't let yourself be cowed by the...

Marti, they are going to miss you a lot! Especially Max, YOUR boy! It will be so hard for him, that I am not going to sugarcoat for you! If it had been any longer than eight days, I would have said, try to get out of it. My Newfoundland, Julie, refused her food when I was away. It didn't matter that...

Re: Simba, 3 months old cream puppy
I don't know. I am 22 years old, so they talk to me as a kid, meaning : not telling me much. the vet's open in an hour, so I will call and insist. You should definitely insist. It's not going to matter to them how old you are when they send you their bill, so they owe you respect now too! Yes, stoo...

What a lovely photo! You should ask admin to make (a part of) it into an avatar for you!
Not necessarily progressive sounds great!
If you and your vet come to the conclusion that exercise helps, why not eventually introduce a long evening/night walk? The light of street lamps is very romantic!

Re: Simba, 3 months old cream puppy
This is why people are told to never buy a pet from a pet shop. It is always a possibility there that the puppies didn't get their shots and get diseases like parvovirus, that vaccinated dogs are protected from. That said, it's great that you brought beautiful Simba to the vet. That is where she sho...

Fear not, Humphrey will keep his happy tail. Yes, it is the nature of some Chows (like Loo's, and your Fozz') to use their tail sparingly, but clearly not Humphrey's!

Beautiful as she is, I don't think Calypso is a purebred Chow. If you google it, she has the exact white markings of a Shiba Inu. That would account for her smaller size too. She's a gorgeous Shiba-Chow, I would say, so it would make sense for her fur to be somewhat in-between, like it is.

Hurricane Whitby causing trouble in Pennsylvania! :D If you run after a Chow, they'll only run faster. As long as they know you're somewhere around (even if it's just on the horizon), they have no reason to stop. But Loo has only ever run off in the fields, so I could fake desinterest in his flight ...

Like Rory's Dad, I wonder if Lola is truly housebroken yet, and has a firm grasp on the whole inside-outside situation. If not, more training is required.
