Just as an example when I got Matilda she was 8 weeks old, and I never left her longer then 3-4 hours at a time for the first 3-4 months. So waiting until next spring sounds like a great idea. Do you have a collar on him or a harness? Can I suggest that you use a harness and a longer lead and then try and take him somewhere where he can walk without interruption and sniff around and investigate the surroundings.
