Re: Beware - Unscrupulous Breeder in the McDonough, GA area
It is horrible which is why I wanted to make sure that anyone looking for a breeder in that area was warned. Because if he cant make money off them then he will stop & hopefully surrender all chows to the shelter.

Re: Chow found on streets of Atlanta. Need help in rehoming
I am fostering Bear who is also HW +, I told my vet that I rescued him and he is giving me a reduced price. Your vet may do the same for you. I am so glad that you are not letting that deter you. The person who helped me get Bear & helps rescue chows from shelters went to see this boy and though...

Beware - Unscrupulous Breeder in the McDonough, GA area
This poor girl came into the local shelter and before she could be rescued the 'owner' came to pick her up. He paid the citation & fees to get her but her conditions say everything...teeth broken & filed down from years of chewing on bars trying to get out of a cage, teets permanantly down f...

Re: Bear has arrived!
As much as I would love to keep Bear sometimes we have to do whats best for them. I was worried about Chums not getting along with him but its actually Belle thats the problem. She does fine when I'm around but when its just her daddy then she knows she can get away with being a little terrorist to ...

Bear has arrived!
Very late last night Bear arrived. He is skinny & matted but I dont think that 'Bear' is his name (no recognition when we say it). He does seem to be purebred or high mix since I cant see any spots on his tongue. He is in good spirits and ignores Belle & Chumley for the most part. He just wa...

Re: I need to have Maggie spayed soon
Not all vets require an overnight stay. When Belle was spayed her daddy dropped her off at 8:30-9am and I picked her up at 5 pm that day. Our vet made sure that she was up & moving around, etc. before he allowed her to leave. There is no way I let mine stay overnight unless they are very sick (&...

Re: Fighting Chow Chows Please help!
Belle was taught by our Iggy before he passed to take the treat to a rug then eat it. So she always takes hers to the rug by the door. I just watch Chumley to make sure he goes to a different rug. If he starts to go near Belle I make that 'aaacckk' sound & he moves in another direction. You can ...

Re: Shedding on & off
Being in Ky I see alot of shedding during the fall, winter & spring. Like you said every time there is warm weather I get fur everywhere  . Belle is also on the nervous side & when we go on vacation we come back to a house full cause she blows her coat (even though we have her favorite...

Omgosh! I am so glad that Loo is getting older and calming down A LITTLE (not a lot). My next dog is not going to be a Chow. I love their enthusiasm for the out-of-doors, but I simply can't handle it. I walk Loo two to three hours every day to take the edge off, but it's hard to find the 2-3 hours e...

Re: New Chow addition to our home!
When we brought Chumley home Belle was about a year old. We just brought him into the house & let him run. It was soo funny cause Belle ran and jumped on the bed to get away from him  But Belle loves the game of chase and so does Chums so Belle soon loved him. Now a year later they have bon...

Thats a tough one, are you just looking at pic or seeing in person:?:
Its seems easier in person cause you usually seem drawn to one. Or in my case I was drawn to one but the hubby wasnt so I just let him chose

Re: Is it okay for a chow to live outdoors?
I am sorry, I didnt mean my post to sound that harsh. They had a 1/2 acre (about 2,023 sq meter) fenced in backyard to roam so they werent tied up or confined to a small run. They did fine outside and as my sister said 'were treated better than most human kids'. As selfish as it sounds, I would do i...

Re: Is it okay for a chow to live outdoors?
I have to come out on the side against any dog being predominantly outside because I have had several...but out of necessity. Long story short, we ended up with Leo, Lady & their children Noddingham & Jr (all chows) + Iggy (chow/sheperd rescue). Leo as alpha would not stand for Nod or Jr to ...

Re: new pup help
I would also recommend crating the little one or similar at night. Not only does it give her a safe place but give the older girls a break & will ease your mind. When we introduced Belle to Iggy he was 12.5 and definately not as active. At first she was really rowdy but soon she fell in step wit...

Re: Edit:Sophie passed away, was worried, but new puppy chos
Chums mom was Morganna. Names are sometimes hard. We knew that Belle would be our girls name since she was the first newbie in 10 years in honor of our first chow Belvedere. However, Chumley was more difficult. I wanted to name him Big Z cause he was huge or Beaureguard (bo) to match Belle but my hu...

Re: Edit:Sophie passed away, was worried, but new puppy chos
Congrats on choosing! If Diva/Sasha is anything like my Chumley she will have an awesome peronsality...everyone loves my Chumley & he loves everyone. Although Diva/Sasha is a little more squishy faced (Chum has a different mom) this gives you an idea of how she may look grown: Chumley at 8 weeks...

I agree this is ridiculous, the people of that town need to Occupy the courthouse or administrative bldg until something is done.
