Re: Surgery needed for entropion??
If you take the Puralube ingredient list to any druggist they would be able to give you the same thing just under another name. Puralube is just one brand.

Re: Surgery needed for entropion??
I would not do entropian surgery on such a young puppy. I would talk to your vet about using a lube such as Puralube http://www.vetrxdirect.com/product/view/puralube I have seen entropian completely clear up as a puppys head develops. Sometimes it is caused by irritation and using a lube will clear ...

Re: Zoey biopsy results
I'm very sorry to hear about Zoey's biopsy results. No sign of cancer in her lungs is good news. Have you considered consulting a holistic vet for treatment? Even if you do not have one close you can arrange phone consults with many of them. I have used a holistic vet to treat two of mine with diffe...

Re: Family with young kids...is a chow right for us?
With 3 young children you can expect to have a lot of children in and out of your home over the next 10 years. Even if your children have been taught to respect the dog, the other children may have no idea how to treat an animal. I'm not sure a Chow is the best choice. There is also the fact that Ch...

Jesse is beautiful, such pretty eyes! I'm sure it will take her time to adjust after being in such a terrible situation. Here is an excellent website http://www.peaceablepaws.com/pat-miller.php that may answer some of your questions. I have read some of Pats books and found them really helpful. Laura

Have you considered doing a thyroid test on Pong? http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/hypothyroidism-in-dogs I would also try an apple cider rinse after a bath. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/issues/15_01/features/Pet-Uses-Of-Apple-Cider-Vinegar_20435-1.html?pg=3 Hope you find out what is going on. Laura

Re: how to know if my chow is pure bred?
There is no way of telling for sure if your chow is pure bred unless you do DNA tests. He looks all chow from the picture you posted. Chows have many types and he looks like he will grow up to look like the parents. They also have different personalities. I have some that were "wild and crazy&q...

Re: Orijen Large Breed Puppy for 8 month old Chow
Hi Maikinda/Laura. I think I will stick to the Orijen brand. Thanks for the dogfoodadvisor site referral which helped me decide. BTW, what did you feed your chows? Regular Puppy food or all life stages? Until what age do I give them puppy? Your 30 years of chow rearing wisdom/experience is what I r...

Have you ever had a skin biopsy done on Jazz? I'm wondering if what you are thinking is allergies is some other kind of problem. Also have you tried rinsing Jazz in apple cider vinegar? Mix natural apple cider vinegar w/mother half and half with water and pour on your dog after bath. Leave on 5 minu...

Re: Orijen Large Breed Puppy for 8 month old Chow
Everyone has different idea's on diet, I think the most important thing is to make sure your dog does not get too heavy. You are feeding an excellent food. I would do a lot of research before changing to make sure you get a food as good. I have to add that I have had Chows for 30 years and have neve...

I also think it could be thyroid, what I have read! I have never heard of a puppy that young having a thyroid problem. Check your shampoo and see if it list "fragrance" in the ingredients . If so find a shampoo without fragrance. Are you putting anything on your carpets? It could be a foo...

Re: Young Dog: Stiffness in back legs?
Great to hear that the joint supplement is helping. I do use Traumeel ad Zeel both for my dogs. It is also for people. I always try to look for a natural product. You do not need a prescription for either one of these. Of course you should check with your vet and make sure he is ok with you using it...

Re: Grooming Troubles
If your boy had allowed himself to be groomed for a time then started getting upset, something happened during a grooming. You don't mention him being aggressive when you try to bath him. If he is just trying to get away I would suggest using food to get him comfortable again. Find a food that he lo...

Re: Nasty Itch!!!
If you still have problems with itching you could try a rinse with organic apple cider vinegar w/mother. Mix half water and half vinegar and work into dogs coat making sure you don't get into eyes. Leave on 5 minutes and then rinse. Don't use if you have open sores.

Louie is a beautiful boy! Its so hard to find out that one of our "kids" has a health problem. It sounds like you are doing a great job taking care of him, he is very lucky. I would caution you about the Remadyl. If at any time when he is taking it he starts acting the least bit strange, m...

I would find a trainer that uses positive methods to work with you and Butch. There may be a training class in your area. If you want to read about positive training this is a good site http://www.peaceablepaws.com/pat-miller.php . I think every dog and owner benefits from training.

Trying when she is tired is a good idea, either on your lap or on the floor. Puralube is a sterile White petrolatum, light mineral oil ointment. There are other brands but most are more expensive. Make sure your vet approves anything you put in your dogs eyes. I just gently pat my chows eyes with a ...

Re: Need Help with a behavior issue with my chow
I would contain her in the room with me, loose if she behaves, in a crate if not. There has to be something bothering her so keep watching and try to find out what it is. Until then I would contain her because there is no way of know how much trouble she could get into. She could even hurt herself. ...
