Re: Pills Kill...

While we have a great vet, I still double check the meds they subscribe. I'm so sorry that your vet was not thorough enough. I know how the empty feeling you are dealing with - don't know how many tears I shed when my boy Chow passed. For many months I would find myself steep in emotion and crying.....

Re: Chow Life changes

Thank you, Zhuyo's mom. We have been through this too many times with our own as well as with our Chow Chow Fest family. We are so fortunate that Shiloh found us 13 years ago. She changed our lives in so many ways. Right now it is one day at a time and we hope those days are many more to come.

Re: Chow Life changes

Shiloh has another UTI. The vet barely got enough of a sample to do a test. An ultrasound showed there is a "mass" in her bladder. It could be a blot cot that formed (she has had many UTIs) or a (hope not) tumor. We have agreed to get off the incontinence meds for now. She is on baytril an...

Re: Chow Life changes

I managed to get Shiloh in the house by herself and used the waterless shampoo on her back end. I did a lot of brushing. She wasn't happy about it and I am sure her legs and hind end were aching but she finally gave up an laid her head down. She walked out on the deck and I started to follow. I gues...

Re: Chow Life changes

I have the washable pee pads everywhere but sometimes she manages to find a spot where there isn't one. I am not sure about trying the diapers she is so sensitive to changes. I use the waterless shampoo and brush her. She has a special groomer appointment on the 5th so hopefully she will look pretty...

Re: Chow Life changes

Switching Shiloh to Incurin for her incontinence has seen a little improvement but we are having to go back to the everyday dose instead of every other day. Today she was sleeping on the hardwood floor and made a big puddle. Her hind end was pretty wet. I go the boys out and while she was standing i...

Re: Chow Life changes

How is Loki doing? What were the test results? Our Shiloh's stability is getting worse. I can see that her right back leg is getting weaker. We are trying Incurin for her incontinence but it's going "so-so". The only thing that she is focused on is doing her daily walk. I can't imagine how...

Re: My Suki Passed, The Love Remains...

We adopted a GSD puppy just weeks after Nahkohe crossed the bridge. My hubby wanted a dog he could take on long daily hikes. It just so happened that a litter of GSD mix puppies were up for adoption within 30 minutes of where we live. I was still grieving a lot and the puppy was a significant distra...

Re: Chow Life changes

[-o| Many prayers for Loki's situation. Last year I was very worried about Shiloh's entropion surgery & the anesthesia. Have you stopped giving Loki vaccinations? We have stopped Shiloh's and the vet doesn't try to push them on us. I talked to a person that shows Collie's and she said that after...

Re: Chow Life changes

Shiloh continues to amaze us. While she is on a fair amount of meds she insists on her daily walks - if not twice a day! She has a UTI that we are treating...gawd, I dislike having to give her so many meds but she is a trooper about taking them. How she puts up with the two boys (ASD & GSD) is c...

Re: My Suki Passed, The Love Remains...

So sorry for your loss. What a wonderful time you and Suki had together - a beautiful story! Waking up howling in tears - I know how that feels and while it seems it will last forever, the heart will heal and you will be able to look back at pictures & videos and remember the love with smiles of...

Re: Chow Life changes

I took Shiloh to the vet yesterday...just to check if there was anything that a factor in her decreased eating. The vet checked her mouth and neck flexibility but all looked okay. It is a some relief that it doesn't look like there is a physical issue restricting her appetite. One day at a time...

Re: Chow Life changes

This morning Shiloh and I went for a walk around the block. I was surprised with the pace she kept. When we got home the porch steps looked to be a challenge for her but she hopped up each step. Her appetite is so minimal and at times she appears to be confused. Last night she chose to be outside in...

Re: Entropion

I don't see how a lotion can correct entropion. My Chow girl had entropion surgery last year. As she is a senior, I searched for options - including laser surgery but she wasn't a good candidate. I took her to a canine opthomolgist and the cost would have been around $1800. Our regular vet said he c...

Re: Chow Life changes

I took Shiloh for a morning walk before going to work. Her walk was slow and she would sometimes stop as though thinking about what to do next. We made it a short walk and she did not mind. She a little chicken this morning and now she is sound asleep...she should take her meds but won't wake up eve...

Re: Chow Life changes

Shiloh continues to love her walks. She has figured out that if she holds a wide stance she won't topple over when she shakes her head. Her appetite is marginal and often we have to hand feed her with her favorite baked chicken pieces. We are starting to plan out our Chow Chow Fest later this year a...

Re: I want by chow chow. It's god idee?

Chow Chows are not recommended for first time dog owners...but I was lucky to get Shiloh as my first Chow Chow. If I got Nahkohe (RIP) as a first Chow Chow we would have been in a lot of trouble. You need to read a lot about Chow Chows and their need for a lot of socialization.

Re: chow in the tropics

We have a kiddie pool. My senior Chow girl used to jump in all the time but her in old age doesn't try to jump in anymore. We have two other non-Chow dogs now and they love the pool. We have to monitor it daily for any mosquitos. Not sure if a kiddie pool is an option in Costa Rica. Most people don'...

We were looking to adopt another Chow Chow and came across a Chow mix. We found a mix at a rescue within a couple of hours driving distance. He had the spotted blue/black tongue. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u389/kingalls/Takoda/Takoda_July%207-25-2015%204-56-44%20PM.jpg We named him Takoda (...
