Re: I am B***** furious!
So sorry to hear about your experience, and very glad that it ended well. Although we are close to Boston, we live in a small town, that considers itself very midwest. We have parades for every holiday and my house is on the parade route. Rory is my 12 week old red and my third chow overall...Kodi w...

Re: Owning two dogs...
Not sure of the ages of your two boys, but a word of caution...keep an eye on the rough rousing. As they reach juvenile age, that will become a battle for alpha dog. And you dont want either of them hurt. I have had two males at the same time, but they were 4 or 5 years apart, so the older dog tende...

Re: Sumo & the snow! - 24/11/2011
Adorable. Sumo is absolutely perfect. I love Chows reactions to the snow, so much better than rain. Still giving our Rory a bit of time before attempting the stairs, he's about a month younger than Sumo.

Re: Chow refuses to go for walks
i tried to post a reply yesterday, but it didnt go through, so i dont know what i did wrong...i agree with Ursa, first check the physical indications...something as simple as a curled nail, or a foreign object between his paw pads could make Thomas not want to walk. Hip discomfort could also be a pr...

Re: Opinions?
My only thoughts on collar choices, i prefer the compression snaps. My dogs have never worn the collars full time, only when they head outside. Something about the sound of the collar closing lets them know they are ready to go. They get used to the sound and never go out the door until they hear th...

Re: Chow refuses to go for walks
Sad to hear about Thomas, this is not something i have run into before. My two previous Chows both loved to get out and walk. They really weren't great leash dogs and would pull me along for the ride. Working on that 'loose leash' theory with my new pup. You dont mention his age or condition so i wo...

Oh my how they love the recliners...i have a sectional with 4 recliners and spend the entire day warning folks that our Rory is underneath. And the computer desk chair even more so..facebook is a danger to our pup's paws. Nice to see how close they want to be to us.
Fantastic looking chows.

Re: what do you feed to your chow chow?
We have followed what our breeder had the puppy on. Nutro Large Breed Puppy Formula. Due to age, the breeder moistened the chow, but based on vet advise we have switched to dry at 11 weeks to exercise the teeth and gums. Rory gets Lowfat Cottage Cheese for breakfast and either boiled chicken breast ...

Re: Buyer's paranoia
Just to add to the replies... We were lucky enough to locate a breeder local to us after losing our two older chowbies...13 and 9 to be exact...within about 6 months of each other. We met the breeder and both parents. Were very happy with the disposition of both, and that is very important. We have ...

Re: When will the hurt go away!
I have to say it is never and easy decision, but it must be made with the best interest of you friend. Reading the history, I think that was what you had to do. We too, have had a tough year with our Chow family. Kodi turned 12 early this year and his hips had just plain given out. He struggled to g...

Re: Help, how to find a reputable chow chow breeder in the N
Just a quick update on my prior post..our breeder called this evening to check on how Rory was adjusting. Thought that was a nice touch. They provided updates on his litter mates and mentioned a forgotten diet item that he enjoyed...red pepper. They asked about his collar/leash training, interaction...

Re: Help, how to find a reputable chow chow breeder in the N
I won't post this as a recommendation, because we have only had Rory for a week, however all signs are good. He is healthy and happy. The breeder was local to us, which was a huge plus. We got to visit and met Rory's sire. The dam had just about finished weening the pups and was still very protectiv...
