Re: Shiloh's 12th Gotcha Day
Thank you, Reddog! I am so much better - I feel like a young Chowgirl again! I was not happy and so annoyed with that miserable cone. The only relief was when Mom took me for my walkie and took that horrid thing off so that I was not embarrassed in public. My new GSD brother was put away in a doggie...

Re: Chronic Hot Spots
I tried but didn't extend the use of a Nu-Vet product that would help with allergy issues. I told a co-worker about this product because she has a dog that had a history of scratching and biting at what looked like hot spots. She took him to several vets and tried a variety of diets, pills, etc. She...

Re: my chow bit me
I am not a Chow breeder, trainer, etc. but I have had 2 Chow Chows in the past 12 years. My Chow Angel, Nahkohe, was not good with people and was suspect in his interest in small dogs  . Our Chow, Shiloh, is sweet as can be and we would not question her being around new people. When my Chowboy...

Beach diarrhea
I am posting this for general info... We took our GSD to the beach..throwing the ball along the shoreline, etc. He was in the water a lot and did drink some of the water. Later into the walk he had a horrible diarrhea incident - totally liquid coming out, and later he vomited. After some research, w...

Re: Our Beautiful Alaska, Need Your Advice
Our angel Chowboy, Nahkohe was not good with people. We got him when he was about 10 weeks old but he was never comfortable around other people - even my daughter & grandson. For 10 years we had to manage the environment so that he and our visitors (which were not many) were not put into a bad s...

Day 8 of the cone...Shiloh is doing really well and is navigating great. So glad we got the soft cone. We remove it when she goes out for her walks twice a day...didn't want her to be embarassed  . It's been so quiet without Kohana at home. We miss him a lot but we get to remove Shiloh's cone ...

Re: Chow Life changes
It has been a few stressful weeks for us and Shiloh. We noticed her right eye was tearing a lot. A trip to the vet resulted in having to apply ointment because of an "ulcer" - follow-up visit at the same place with her regular vet revealed that she has entropion and suggested an ophthalmol...

Re: Chow Life changes
Our girl Shiloh continues to hang in there and let the puppy GSD know when he's out of line. She still loves her walks around the block. Some days she is a little slow and other days she prances like she's 5 years old. Shiloh doesn't do well with changes. This past week I went on a trip to visit my ...

Re: Time to say goodbye to my beloved Sheena
Jennifer,
It's never easy and no matter how prepared we think we can be, it is heart breaking. Despite her health issues, Sheena held on like the trooper she was. Glad she could be there at CCF14 and participate in the games.
Take care,

Sea Jerky with MSM as a supplement - yes, I will look for that this weekend. I am not sure about her eyes. I need to have her vet checked and will discuss with the vet.
I don't think I should risk carrying her up the stairs ...two senior girls going up the stairs sounds like trouble.

Re: Feeling guilty *warning: very sad*
You need to take comfort that you tried. I don't know that his issues could have been easily or quickly fixed. While I don't watch Cesar Milan and not much of Victoria, I don't remember them with a Chow Chow. I could not trust my angel Chowboy around anyone - not even my daughter and grandson. I had...

Re: Chow Life changes
We have baby gates that keep the furkids from getting to the front door. It's always been a fear for us to have the front door open and one of them dashing out. Shiloh will paw at the gate when she wants to check out the other side. Friday night I was watching a movie with my daughter & grandson...

Re: Is it right for us? (Family with small child)
There are many Chow Chow owners on this site that brought a Chow Chow into their home with small children or had a Chow and then kids. The key is socialization, socialization, socialization...that does require a certain amount of effort on your part. Do you have a lot of people that visit to help wi...

Re: My dog is being aggressive.
Chows are so different - you can't train them just like other dogs. My Chows were never treat oriented and they never do anything that doesn't seen relevant. Your Chow will remember this trainer - I don't know that you will get very far with more lessons.

Re: Do I get a second Chow?
We were able to introduce Shiloh and the GSD puppy in the home via a separated space. We installed a baby gate to keep them separated for the first few weeks. Shiloh is a mellow Chow so that made it easier. Shiloh pretty much tried to avoid the puppy but he continually tried to be her friend. At fir...

Re: Do I get a second Chow?
The young Chow will want to play. If Amber prefers a less active life, then it may require a fair amount of intervention from you. My GSD puppy doesn't understand why my 11.5 year old Chow won't play. He brings her toys and jumps all around her but she doesn't like it. When she has had enough of his...

Re: Chow Life changes
We took Shiloh and Kohana for a cold New Year's Day walk at a local park. It was maybe 34 degrees (cold for most Coastal Californians) but the two of them didn't mind the frost and frozen puddles. Shiloh was loving it - Kohana, too but he has been to the park before. We had to take a few shortcuts s...
