Re: Chow Life changes
My Chloe is on Tramadol and I squish it in cheese or pop them in a piece of sandwich meat or hotdog and she takes them like a champ. Just a suggestion. I'm sorry that she is struggling.

Re: How to use Walk'N rain dog head halter
I didn't read the article but I have been using the same easy walk harness for 8 years and it works fine. Nothing is going to be perfect. You will still have to work with him in a calm, gentle, patient way, but if I can walk 150lb of dogs alone anybody can. I will say this though. At my house the wa...

Re: How to use Walk'N rain dog head halter
It just looks like it closes his mouth? I bought a gentle leader easy walk harness for my two. ( nothing goes around their mouth/head) It works like a normal harness with the leash clip centered on their back/shoulder area or you can adjust it so that the leash clip area is on their chest. When it i...

Re: How to use Walk'N rain dog head halter
May I ask why you have him muzzled for walks? Correct me if I'm wrong but that appears to be encircling/closing his mouth and looks like some kind of torture device. How can he pant properly? I completely understand why he would want that off his muzzle! Why would you want him to wear that? Is he me...

Re: Discipline
Well as you already know it is pointless and completely harmful to try and physically dominate a Chow! The worst thing you can do! It seems very simple to me so I apologize for stating the obvious but he isn't a dog that you can allow off leash in the front yard. I would never allow any dog off leas...

We signed up too! It's so cute to open it with them. They know what "I got you something" means when I go to the store so I use it with the bark box too. Some of the toys they don't like. Shug only likes stuffed toys and Chloe doesn't like toys at all. I am putting aside the ones they don'...

Re: Elderly Chow - Quality of life
I'm glad you took him to the vet. If you don't notice any improvement with the meloxicam within a cpl weeks there are other pain meds to try. You are his advocate and his voice. I hope you guys get some quality and quantity time!

Re: Newbie with my baby chow
Congratulations, he is adorable! I do wish his breeder had been responsible enough to keep him with his mom and litter mates until he was at least 8 weeks old. No offense to you at all, it's just a big pet peeve of mine. What kind of training? I took mine to a local puppy class when they were old en...

Re: Elderly Chow - Quality of life
I'm glad you are making the vet call! Your only goal at this point is comfort and quality of life. You don't want him to suffer. There are several pain meds you can try and combine to see what provides relief. Tramadol, rimadyl, gabapentin, deramaxx, etc. Keep us updated.

Re: Elderly Chow - Quality of life
You just do everything that you can to make them comfortable. Pain meds! Pain meds! Pain meds! Dogs take a lot before they show any signs of pain so just imagine how bad he is hurting if he can barely get up. If he isn't on anything please make that call today. Otherwise just spoil him and love him ...

Chloe says hi! She has snored like crazy since she was a pup. She is banned from the bedroom at night because she will literally keep us awake all night. I call her my little piggy and tell her she needs a cpap! Shuggy doesn't snore at all.

Re: Aggression or normal Chow behavior?
My first thought is that it is your job to protect her and don't allow a situation to happen that could put her in jeopardy. If she did bite someone she will be the one to pay the price. You must be firm with people and tell them flat out that they cannot pet her. First and foremost do not put her i...

Re: Need help understanding my rescue chow
Perhaps he was mistreated by a male in his past and he is afraid? Patience as was stated above but also try taking over his care. Feeding, walks, all good things come from you? If he will allow it of course. If your mom walks him maybe you can tag along and eventually switch the leash over. Maybe us...

Re: Which breeder should I choose?
Well my choice would be neither! Did you see the amount of Chows in the rhr pics? Enlarge them. Their chows are part of their family? Please! Chow factory farming IMO. Lives lived in cages as breeding stock, not in homes! The other place didn't seem much different. It's just sad. Due to my own ignor...

Re: what's best for Buddy2?
Oh I see. I am sorry about your hubby and all of Buddy's issues. Chloe also has severe hip dysphasia and allergies so I know a bit about what's it's like to have one with health issues. Not fun! Buddy is so young. Once you get his acl issue resolved I don't see why you couldn't get him a friend. May...

Re: what's best for Buddy2?
I guess I'm curious how old Buddy is and why you aren't getting his acl repaired at this point. Just curious, not meaning to sound judgmental. I had a 12/13 year old chow boy that tore his and I didn't get it surgically repaired but he was on strict rest for 6 weeks as in crate/confined rest with le...

Wow I can't believe it has been a year already. You never really get over the loss. July 31st was 8 years since I lost Kody and I still miss him. Each one that comes into our lives is unique and leaves their very own lasting impression and spot in our hearts and they take a little piece when they go...

Re: Cherub Chows - Any First Hand Feedback?
First let me say that I have zero respect for the AKC due to this very issue multiplied by the thousands nationwide. Having said that the only thing I can think to do is write to them and list the complaints, provide documentation via pictures, vet visits, etc. and if enough people complain then may...

If it were me I would search for an orthopedic vet (specialist) in your area and do as Laura suggested above. Heck I want to join the chow health Facebook site! I didn't know about it.
