Puppy zoomies (even though he is a big boy now) are the best. What a well socialized boy he is becoming. Kudos to you!

Re: Chow Rescue groups in Midwest?

Teddy came from American Animal Rescue Society (AARS) in the Chicago burbs. It is an all breed rescue but local. Let Joanna know you are looking for a chow, and she will let you know if one comes to her attention. AARSociety.org. Cinder came from the ADOPT (Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment) she...

Re: What a big Chutters!

Just more of him to love. Give him a great big hug from Auntie Jerilyn, please. I understand about the blind issues. Teddy is 89 lbs as of yesterday (and on a diet, he has been getting some of Cinder's food at each meal). He still thinks the best way to get around is to just push things out of his w...

Re: just lost my Bear to stomach cancer

I am so sorry for your loss. I so empathize with you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I lost my Chana at 13 to stomach cancer. And Cinder, (at least 9 years old, a rescue so am unsure of her age) has an inoperable cancerous tumor now. (She just started grinding her teeth while eating and occas...

Cinder is headshy too. Strangers are allowed to scratch under the chin, if she approves of them, but not pet the top of her head. The one and only time she was willingly petted on the head by a stranger was during her CGC test. We had a little talk just before the test where I explained if she didn'...

Re: New Chow Chow

Here's a couple of recipes I make for my two furkids. They make a lot and I just freeze it in pint sized freezer bags so I can thaw a single meal at a time. Beef Stew for Dogs 2 lb low fat beef 4 Tbsp Olive Oil 6 large potatoes 6 large carrots 4 Celery Sticks 8 cups beef stock (I use low sodium) Dic...

Re: Few snapshots of Yogi last nite

I think they keep their soft puppy coats for at least a year before they get an adult coat (it has been almost 20 years since we had a puppy here). So you may not know how fluffy he is going to be until next winter.

Re: The girls are home

God bless you for rescuing these two ladies. Their fur will grow back, my Teddy's did. It just takes a long time. I don't know how cold it gets there except not as cold as it does here, so don't know if they will need coats this winter. Teddy had a fleece coat as he was shaved in mid October, 2 year...

Re: Coco & the Malinois

Oh, poor Coco. She just doesn't like dogs bigger than her and this one was not observing the proper protocol in dealing with the Parisian Chow Princess either. Bad dog, bad owner for letting him do that! I'm sure it was a dominance thing. Teddy is neutered and yet at woof fest tried to hump a male o...

Re: Chow cross

The purple tongue comes with more breeds than you might expect including Belgian Sheepdogs (look like a black german shepherd). And if you are looking at a pup it is even harder to tell if you have a mix or a purebred. You can get a DNA test but I don't know how long it takes.

Layla,

That chowling is way too cute. I would frame photo 38. I also love Millie running and evading capture. She looks like a happy girl.

What a beautiful place you found. The scenery is amazing.

Teddy lifted his leg when he came to me. He was neutered that day and after about a week or two he stopped lifting his leg. He just leans forward slightly and lets it rip, just like Chutters.

Re: 2 chows in apartment

I had Chana and Tasha, my first two chows in an apartment. The only negative to two in an apartment is the noise of double zoomies for the downstairs neighbor. We lived in a two flat and the downstairs tenant had a dog too so we got the landlord's permission to fence in a small area for the pups. Bu...
